Problems in 'Voice' Section=

[edit]

Perhaps someone can fix this, not only is it missing quotations but there seems to be some other wording disaster inside.

During an interview with Billy Johnson Jr of Yahoo! Music in 2003, Mýa stated I like to sing loud, I like to sing soft, I just like to feel good, period. It's not that serious also commenting on the fact there are a lot of misconceptions just about singing, period and she's just happy to be here. She also mentions in the interview I think being a young artist, just starting out of high school, what kids listen to is club music. We don't necessarily get too deep or sing like Aretha Franklin. That's not even what music is truly about today. It's sad, but I want to give a little bit of sex, being fabulous or sassy. I definitely want to be able to sing and back that up, and being a dancer first has sort of given me a complex that I have to be able to sing, period, with a band. If I break my leg, I'd like to give a show without pyrotechnics and choreography every five seconds.

Bolded sentence makes no sense. _ morde t .. 15:51, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

[edit]

I was thinking if we could move this page to Mya_(singer) and keep this page (Mya) for disambiguation.

Thanks. Lazyd0g 07:55, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

What is wrong with this page?

[edit]

It looks like a bunch of news articles strung together.

Mya vs. Mýa

[edit]

I have seen this singer's name written as Mýa in some places. Is this a correct, alternative spelling? Gordon P. Hemsley 09:06, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

Actually, "Mýa" is the correct spelling. Should we move the page? --FuriousFreddy 10:51, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I would say yes, but I've no real attachment to it nor control over it. Gordon P. Hemsley 21:27, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

why is there an accent there in the first place, she is the only person i have ever seen with an accent on the letter y, in fact my computer doesnt even let me insert this charicter. what is the significance? is her name from a language which has an accent on the y (y+´) or is it pureply idiomatic and stylistic?71.142.82.33 21:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pop & Rock Radio

[edit]

Will someone please remove the sentences such as “Although the singles all had substantial airplay on urban and rhythmic radio, they all also failed to cross over onto pop radio”. First, this is speculating that the intention of the artist was for the song to cross over. Second, this makes any success she reaches on urban and rhythmic radio sound meaningless. This is the second article I have read that made the successes achieved on urban radio sound less valuable than on pop or rock radio.

I think successes achieved on urban radio ARE less valuable than on pop or rock radio. They earn less money, they don't sell as much, they reach a smaller audience. That aside, I think that section is written such that it does give credit for her "pop" (IE: popular) hits, given that it then goes on to state the releases from Fear of Flying. My interpretation of that section is that "she became well known in the urban scene but it wasn't until later releases that she had success in the pop music charts", which are, for all intents and purposes, a fair indicator of success within the music industry. 203.173.24.42 01:05, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to her picture?

[edit]

the old one looked better and more perfessional. what happened to it?

Birthyear

[edit]

Was Mya born in 1978 or 1979? Hotwine8 04:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • She was born on 1979. IMDB lists it as 1978 but that was a typo-o and i requested the change already.

just wondering...

[edit]

why are all the albums but the debut italized??? shouldn't liberation be the only 1 italized because it's not out yet??? and the sales are wrong; it's

Mya: 2x platinum Feat of Flying: Platinum Moodring: Platinum

According to Billboard, it's

  • Mya: Platinum
  • Fear Of Flying: Platinum
  • Moodring: Gold

Mya's new single Ayo

[edit]

Is Mya's single Ayo being released in August 21 on radio or as a single? I'm kinda confused.

She was born in 1979 and Control Freak will be out in 2007

[edit]

the only website that says that she was born in 1978 is imdb, which was a type-o and they take months to make changes (i've sent in a request). her official website ( http://www.myamya.com/ ; temporarily down) says it's 1979.

Link please?

Control Freak will come out in 2007 (oficial mya website).

Please quit changing it... yesterday Control Freak wasn't listed and her birth year was 1981.

who keeps changing the birth year?

[edit]

She was born in 1979. I've checked lots and lots of sites. She was 1979 because her debut album was released when she was 18 in 1998, her sophmore album was released in spring 2000 in which she was 20. Last year she turned 26 and when her album is released this year she will be 27.

it's cool now. i talked to the person who was changing it and they we're just mistaking.

What makes you so sure 1978 is a typo? If you go to zabasearch and search for Mya M Harrison it says she was born in October 1978.

it's 1979. leave it at that. who are you gonna believe, her or some website???
I have yet to hear HER say she was born in 1979. According to a comment above it says she was born in 1979 on myamya.com, but I checked and it does not say anywhere on there she was born in 1979, even in the archive.org versions.

What happened to the Control Freak page???

[edit]

Why was it deleted??? can someone create it and have it be the same as before it was deleted... I'll be putting information about the album as it comes.

Picture???

[edit]

What happened to it??? can someone please put it back or bring a new one (preferably a 2006 pic).

Discography

[edit]

Can someone open a page for her discography??? i have all the info and i've already made a request like 2 months ago, but nothing.

Mya's singlke I am

[edit]

Is Mya's song "I am" really going to be the official single because I checked her myspace and she said that Ayo wasn't going to be her single but she didn't say anything about "I am" being the official single.

  • the first single is supposed to be unknown until it comes out, but she sorta hited "i am" will be
the first single.

Ayo on UK chart

[edit]

Is Ayo really #4 on the UK charts?

it went down already. it was though.

No, it was #124 or lower. Most likely it didn't chart, it's not like it has been officially released in the UK. -- chsf, 10:08 CET, 2007-02-28

Albums

[edit]

to whoever is editing it, Fear of Flying sold 6 million WW not 5. the rest is good.

Lady Marmalade

[edit]

I deleted this section:

"Though all four performers have had at least one subsequent mainstream hit, none of them (with exception to Christina Aguilera) has since achieved the same magnitude of chart success as they did with "Lady Marmalade"."

... on the grounds that Pink (and obviously Christina) has achieved great success since LM, which makes the above paragraph a bit pointless. And it doesn't really have anything to do with Mya anyway! Pennywisepeter 13:46, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Born in 1978, not 1979

[edit]

She was born in 1978, according to NNDB.com[1]LAUGH90 23:53, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • that site is wrong. she wasn't even born in DC. she was born 10/10/1979.

False facts

The diacritic

[edit]

Is there any information available as to the source of the diacritic in her name? Does it affect pronunciation in some writing system, or is it just decorative, like the heavy metal umlaut? Marnanel 22:06, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"I Am" second single?

[edit]

hey everyone. i was wondering, does anyone have any thought on the second single from "Liberation". i have a feeling it will be "I Am" because she is doing heavy promotion for this song because every performance she has done, she has performed this song. if anyone agrees that "I Am" is the second single, get back at me. thanks! Dallen4u 00:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ayo

[edit]

I've checked around, and according to sources such as Billboard magazine, "Ayo" was originally the first single from Liberation — and if the chart history page for Mýa on the Billboard website is to be believed, it even made it onto the R&B/hip-hop chart. So I don't understand why IP editor 66.16.159.192 (talk · contribs) is persistently removing all mention of it from the discography section; if he/she explains himself here (or in edit summaries, at the very least), that would be appreciated. Extraordinary Machine 18:12, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sex Machine

[edit]

I have a copy of said song on my computer that's been sung by Mya, but there was no info about it on any article relating to her. However, a quick Google search showed she sang a version for the film Legally Blonde. I was just wondering if anyone had a more credible source that they could link into the article other than the one I found at Amazon.com? londonsista | Prod 13:58, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Photo

[edit]

Is it possible we could get a better lead photo? This one makes her look unnaturally thin. If she is anorexic, there should be some mention of that in the article. Stonemason89 (talk) 15:31, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life.....

Why is there no mention of it. Most wiki articles for celebs have a personal life section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.45.139.66 (talk) 00:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is LGBT sourced?

[edit]

She's in these categories: | LGBT African Americans | LGBT Christians , yet there is no mention ( and most importantly sourcing ) in the article. I'll remove those categories and if someone can source them, then she should add them back in. --Rajah (talk) 17:21, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unconfirmed Fear Of Flying Japan Bonus Tracks

[edit]

Is there a link to verify the bonus tracks in question, "Girls Like That" and "Telephone Games" actually exist on the Japanese edition of Fear of Flying (album) ?. The link that was provided [1] gives an error and appears to be outdated. I had went on Discogs.com to research these supposedly bonus tracks [2] [3], and both of these Japanese releases only show that there are 18 tracks with no bonus tracks, not the 20 tracks like the Fear of Flying tracklisting page had suggested. I am going to include a citation needed since there isn't a verifiable source.

Since I am not able to find any reliable sources that confirm that these were actual "bonus tracks" on the Japanese edition, I will have to add them in the list of "Unreleased Songs by Mya". The only sources I could find that mentions these "bonus tracks" only shows valid proof that these "bonus songs" were never available or intended to be on any edition of the album.

Nickname vs. description

[edit]

I just removed statements saying that Harrison has the nicknames "Pop Princess" and "R&B Princess". The sources for these statements were using the terms generically, and were not reporting them to be widely-used nicknames for Harrison. By way of comparison, a magazine article titled "Rock Stars of the '70s -- Where Are They Now?" would not be a good basis for declaring that everyone mentioned in the article had the nickname "Rock Star". And that's the sense in which the cited articles were using the term "princess". NewYorkActuary (talk) 11:54, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritic - proposed removal

[edit]

I like it when Wikipedia is careful to use diacritics that more sloppily edited websites leave out, but in Mya's case I think the ý in her name is an example of stylization analogous to that employed by e.g. KoЯn or SAni†Y. There is nothing to suggest her legal name as given to her by her parents uses the letter ý, which appears in only a few languages, so at best the use of it when talking about her childhood is an anachronism. Turning to her musical career, the accent does not appear on the covers of all her releases (see e.g. File:It'sAllAboutMe.jpg, File:MoulinRougeLady.jpg) and even her own website is not careful to use it throughout [2]. I propose changing all mentions of Mýa to Mya, including moving this article, but including the phrase "stylized as Mýa" in the first sentence, like we do for Korn and other examples. Ethnic background

[edit]

In the early life section, there is a sentence that says, "During her childhood, Mýa sometimes had to endure insensitive comments about her ethnic background;" however, no where in the article does it say what her ethnic background is. I think her ancestors were or are Jamaican and Italian. Maybe you could add that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ap4lmtree2 (talkcontribs) 09:27, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
