Talk:My Uncle Napoleon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article currently is about two separate mediums; the original novel and its television series adaptation. It becomes unclear halfway through whether what is being discussed is what happened in the novel or the series. In order to rectify this, I suggest splitting the article in two. An "Adaptation" section can include a short summary of the series (its production, development, stars, reception, etc), but the main information, including most of the wonderful images and infobox can be located at a new article, My Uncle Napoleon (TV series). Just a suggestion, but it will greatly help the main contributors concentrate on two different facets of one franchise. María (habla conmigo) 13:53, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further work needed on this article

[edit]

As has been noted, this article is a little ambiguous as it deals with both the book and the TV series. I did work a lot on this article back in April and May, but don't have the time to really make it into at least a B Class article. Perhaps someone with a bit more time on his/her hands can work on it. Here is my list of TO DO items:

1. Separate the article into two articles, one dealing with the book and one dealing with the TV Series. Move the TV Series' info box and screenshots and bulk of its information from the book article to the TV Series article, and then add a brief section on the TV adaptation in the article dealing with the book.

2. Find more sources about the "literary significance and reception" of the book. Currently many of the claims are unverified. This turned out to be a difficult job for me, as there aren't many independent reviews or analysis of the book in English.

3. Find information about the original Persian print of the book. Currently all the information in the article deals with Davis' English translation, simply because I couldn't find ANY information on the original publication in Persian. If anyone perhaps has a copy of the original Persian print, please update the article with its information (e.g., the info box, publication history, etc.)

4. Someone with a bit more Wikipedia Knowledge than me, can turn the references into a real reference list, and convert the Harvard style citation which I have used into numeric-style citation (I think it helps readability, and numeric-style is definitely more popular in other similar Wikipedia articles that I have observed).

After these tasks are done, I think we should be in good shape for a B Class rating at least.

Hopefully, someone will attend to these sooner, rather than later.

Cheers

Dear Uncle's younger brother

[edit]

The article includes this: "Colonel (Sarhang): Dear Uncle's younger brother. A paranoid retired army officer, he retired from the army with a rank much lower than a colonel, but is referred to as colonel by the family."

I have read the Persian version, and there his retirement or paranoia is not mentioned. It is correct that his rank was not Sarhang (but Dear Uncle had decided to call him that and others followed him). Also he is rather normal, and other than insisting on the marriage between his son and Leili, he is reasonable and definitely not paranoid. I think someone has mixed him up with the "Dear Uncle Napoleon" which is both retired and paranoid.MikeEcho (talk) 22:10, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ban

[edit]

First, it says the series was briefly banned, then it "has been banned" since the Islamic revolution. There should be an explanation if the ban continues and why it happened.

Disambiguation Needed

[edit]

hey! want to work on this page a bit (first time editor!) but i have a question. don't know if anyone will see this though. Mash Qasem is said to be from Ghiasabad. that is listed on the page with *Disambiguation Needed*. i don't think this can be disambiguated! given the tone of the novel, that seems to be a joke, given his compulsive lying tendencies, about there being so many different Ghiasabads! what would be the best way to resolve this? do i need to find a citation confirming his being from ghiasabad is a joke about ambiguity [something i do not know if is possible]. much thanks 2600:6C67:6E7F:5AD1:0:0:0:3 (talk) 22:04, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
