See also "F for Fake"
[edit]I added a "See also" section with the Orson Welles documentary "F for Fake" which also raised questions about who gets to decide what is and is not art. This addition was removed shortly after I added it. What was the rationale for the deletion? KConWiki (talk) 19:59, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- Given the nature of the controversy about the film, it seemed like negative commentary. I've restored it with some explanatory text cribbed from above.--agr (talk) 21:06, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the revert of the revert; In retrospect I see how it might have been interpreted as negative and possibly inflammatory commentary (like if I had added "See also: 'Liar, liar, pants on fire'" or something like that.) If you were interested in this film and have not yet seen the Welles film, you should make sure to check it out. True, one of the main subjects of the Welles film is certainly art forgery, and the question of art "cheating" is raised but not definitively answered in MKCPT, but the discussion is along similar enough lines that I think persons interested in one article or film could easily be interested in the other. DVD Special Features material
[edit]I don't think that special features from the DVD should be so prominently featured in the Summary section of the film. That sort of thing belongs on a Marla Olmstead page, or lower down... the summary goes on and on about things that people said before the documentary and after, but it's not something I want to dive right in and slash apart without other people's input. - I agree. The summary should be about what is in the film. I restored an earlier version of the summary's start.--agr (talk) 10:31, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Feedback for the televised version of this dvd
[edit]Feedback if it was complete at all (who knows what the may have broadcasters cut).
All went well upto the golden documentary moment. Even then her mother knew afterwards it was all over and left the camera shot. Her father followed soon after.
Question is why did they let the filming continue !
Knowing full well they nearly lost everything because of filming. Then recouped with the ocean dvd so called showing she did actualy paint it. Marla even gave the game away a few times herself. The end was the light of what really was the truth. Children of four and five normaly do speak the truth, as Marla had done.
Still don't know who to believe then i would say believe Marla in the video. She will tell and show you the truth. Don't waste your money unless you can afford to gamble it. Wait instead for a true child painter, next time i'm sure video evidence will be captured for the truth early on.
Marla if you read this now or in years to come. Remeber the initial training your father taught you. Rember that this type of art anyone can do. Try to venture out alone, i'm sure you will sell some earn some income to be comfortable.
Marlas father you should do some more art like that is shown. If not all your own then team up with your daughter and paint together as you had done. Yes that underworld or the painting with the green passageway was good. Even you could have made plenty of money from that one alone from reprints.
In the video it showd Marla home page. Have a look at the picture shown on the left hand side. Now that one and like it could make lots of money, truly leads the viewer in. Much as does the one with the green passage. Both can hold the viewer, the web page one after a while soon realise there is more than one face. Many more the one i'm sure i counted seven or eight at least. Now that is very clever art, do more like that you will make money.
Sincerely though just start afresh daughter and father paintings. Don't be put of by the fact they are the same as what is already painted. Don't even try to alter the style. You know the art world knows fully now that you are part of this team, and are waiting for the team to come out and tell all. By doing so only then will the paintings sell for many thousands of dollars again, be truthful to the buyers they will reward you with riches. Be truthful to know one and so the story becomes stale. Think of your daughter, think of her future, think of what other may say to her. She isn't tarnished like you but could be, i'm sure you know what women can be like. For this reason alone come out tell all, both of you most likely become rich and famous it is the way it can be. Swallow your pride and do it, or become zero. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.242.150.119 (talk) 09:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
