Balance

[edit]

This article seems to be rather unbalanced. Nearly half the article describes things that are wrong with the sport and criticism that have been made of it. JBFrenchhorn (talk) 10:42, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the responsibility of contributors to keep a given article balanced. The responsibility is to add content that is referenced by sources. If ninety-percent of all information available on the Internet leans towards one direction, then so be it. The people who like mutton busting is responsible to talk more about it on the Internet as a whole, and then later on they turn into references Wikipedia can use. On the contrary. One of the basic pillars of Wikipedia is to maintain a neutral point of view on all articles. That said, one solution to a particular bias is to bring it up on the discussion pages (as was done here) and to perhaps place an edit tag questioning the neutrality of the article. A well seasoned Wikipedia contributor, however, ought to strive towards neutrality when possible. Deliberately biasing an article, even if that content is referenced by sources, can and should be reverted as a violation of basic core Wikipedia principles.
This said, merely mentioning that there are some folks who don't approve of or support the practice of Mutton busting certainly can be legitimately mentioned in an article of this nature. Just don't overdo that section and have it overpower what the article is about. --Robert Horning (talk) 16:16, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
At the moment, there's mostly just description and one sentence on how the ASPCA singles it out. I don't think it is grossly unbalanced. It's a novelty event and there's just not a lot out there on it. Montanabw(talk) 23:19, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Found a book source, and Google News Archive search returns 2200+ articles, mostly about regional and local events, when searched as "mutton bustin" without the "g". --Lexein (talk) 13:59, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
one article stated it was not permitted in some or all of europe, but i cant read the article now. NPOV doesnt mean we present both sides equally. we just dont indicate if WE are taking a biased view. most people believe that child murder is wrong. the article on child murder does not require an equal number of citations pro and anti. and this is not cited much cause no one really knows about it except people who like it. never heard about it until today, and its been happening at a ranch near me for my entire adult life. 2600:1700:5FA1:61B0:B17F:B71D:9308:A349 (talk) 05:15, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
