Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Mustang (disambiguation) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. Dicklyon (talk) 18:39, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
In particular, trying to go to the Mustang disambiguation page now takes one straight to the Mustang (horse) article; that is, the horse editors have claimed that their article is primarytopic, at a discussion that was not advertised to editors of the various car, airplane, and city articles affected, and was also not advertised as WP:RM as is standard. This notice is an attempt to get wider participation from editors of affected articles, but so far it has not. Dicklyon (talk) 18:25, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Smedley Butler
[edit]I'm not an expert so want to put it here before editing but wasn't Maj Gen Smedley Butler a mustang officer? He started off as an enlisted marine during the Spanish American war Ilovewiki19 (talk) 14:08, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
- No, he received a direct commission, without prior enlisted service and apparently without any college training. rogerd (talk) 22:52, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Excluding prior enlisted officers who commission through normal means
[edit]In the introduction, it says that mustangs are officers who did not attend the academies, ROTC or OCS, yet John Shalikashvili is used as an example, and he went to OCS. There are many prior enlisted people who commission through those three methods. rogerd (talk) 22:47, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
