Professional sports sections
Eperoton, thanks for your work on this page. Looking at the sections you moved, I am not sure whether some of the information is relevant. For example, the story about Sabina Altynbekova in the volleyball section doesn't really fit, as the source used makes no mention of her religion. I know you didn't write that part, but the whole professional sports section seems to portray all athletes from countries like Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Kosovo as Muslim. I would like to heavily revise the soccer, volleyball, and tennis sections in order to focus more on specific Muslim athletes, as well as issues they face that specifically pertains to their religion or culture. - You're quite right. Some of the statements in those sections clearly violate WP:NOR. For example, there's no citation to establish that Dinara Safina identifies as Muslim, and I can't find any solid evidence of that. The text also reads too much like a fan blog at times.
- Difficulties related to Muslim background are certainly in scope of this article. I'm not well versed in the sources on this topic, but I would guess that there's also significance coverage of accomplishments, so we wouldn't want to neglect that side of the topic either. If the sources discuss which challenges are specific to Muslim societies, which are common to developing countries, and which are shared by women around the world, I think that would be particularly enlightening. - I'm glad you agree. I will delete the sections that don't follow Wikipedia protocol soon, and start working on the professional sports sections this weekend. My plan is to highlight the accomplishments of Muslim female athletes in the professional sports section, and discuss specific challenges in a separate section. - Also, do you think that the "religious factors" section should fall under the "factors affecting sports participation" section? If so, where should that new section go? I think the religious factors part is one of the most important components and should come first, but I'm not sure it's best to move the other factors to the beginning of the article as well. - Yes, religious factors certainly belong together with other factors. I think it makes sense to place that section first, since it provides a general introduction and context for the rest. Eperoton (talk) 04:02, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
