Notability
[edit]The article states that one of the country's most famous coroners said that this is one of the worst cases that he has ever seen. The subject has received national media coverage by CBS News and the New York Times. Grundle2600 (talk) 22:32, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- And yet she fails WP:1E. -Zeus-u|c 22:33, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- The article is not about her - it is about her murder. Grundle2600 (talk) 22:34, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- A murder this horrific is notable. Grundle2600 (talk) 22:34, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- Do you have a source for that? I'm converting this to an AfD. I think you have a CoI in this matter. I'm not trying to appear insensitive, but we have strict guidelines here. -Zeus-u|c 22:38, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- I understand your actions. You are not being insensitive. While I did not personally know this person, I did read about it in my local newspaper. Grundle2600 (talk) 22:43, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Possible items to mention in article
[edit]Events to remember Jennifer Daugherty This article is written in the future tense, but once the events happen, I'm sure a follow up article will be published. This information could be useful for the article. It's pretty rare that such events are held by people who didn't even know the victim. Grundle2600 (talk) 15:45, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure if this is relevant to the article, but the Washington Post reported that the suspects have head lice. Grundle2600 (talk) 15:48, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
More sources
[edit]Here are a few more sources that could be added to the article:
- The disabled are more likely to be victims of crime. This article uses the torture-murder of Daugherty as an example.
- A hate crime symposium was inspired by this case
- Hate crime charges were considered against the defendants
- Ricky Smyrnes brought up his bad childhood in an effort to escape the death penalty
- Defense attorneys sought to save two defendants from the death penalty by showing mental incompetence, and Meidenger testified against them
- Ricky Smyrnes was found mentally competent and sentenced to death
- The defendants are described as 'misfits'. Also, there's lots of background.
- Masters was offered a plea deal. The plea would have resulted in a maximum sentence of 20-40 years in prison.
- Marinucci's sentence was vacated in August 2013
I'll try to get around to adding them myself, but I really dislike editing articles that don't use citation templates. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:38, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
