Fair use rationale for Image:Arms-bromley-bc.jpg
[edit]Image:Arms-bromley-bc.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 07:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Municipal or Metropolitan
[edit]According to Wikipedia, as well as other sources, Municipal Boroughs (or districts) were abolished by the 1972 Local Government Act. Why then is this article titled Municipal Borough of Bromley? The explanations of Greater London Metropolitan or not County are vague. If the meaning of Metropolitan is understood, Greater London must be a Metropolitan County, making all the districts within Metropolitan Boroughs, or districts ....... or whatever! It's no wonder this government of ours is so dizzy. Even it's local authority divisions are a mixed up mess!

- Eh... let me see if I can this out.
- This article is about a former local government district. The Municipal Borough of Bromley no longer exists.
- Municipal Boroughs were a form of local government district created by or under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835.
- They no longer exist: they were as you say abolished (in 1974) by the Local Government Act 1972
- In Greater London, local government reorganisation took place at an earlier date (1965) under the London Government Act 1963
- All municipal boroughs (and county boroughs, and metropolitan boroughs and urban districts) within the new Greater London were abolished in 1965, and replaced by London Boroughs.
- The Municipal Borough of Bromley was one of the boroughs abolished in 1965
- Its former area has, since 1965, formed part of the larger London Borough of Bromley. The London Borough still exists.
- As far as Metropolitan Boroughs are concerned they are/were different from municipal boroughs. The term "metropolitan borough" has been used twice:
- From 1900 to 1965 for the 28 subdivisions of the County of London. These were created by the London Government Act 1899. Examples are Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey, Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich. These were all abolished 44 years ago.
- Since 1974 for those districts within the Metropolitan counties created in 1974 which have been granted borough status by royal charter. Examples are the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale and Metropolitan Borough of Oldham. These still exist.
- No, Greater London is not a metropolitan county, although it looks and feels pretty much like one. Officially it is an "area", and is deemed not to fall in any county. If it had created at the same time as the 1974 met. counties it might have got the title, I suppose...
- All of which long pre-dates the present government! Lozleader (talk) 21:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
