Removal of template messages - 9/13/16
[edit]First it should be noted that whomever inserted the three template messages at the top of the article did not write an explanation here on the user page, which Wikipedia strongly recommends.
Message #1: This article contains content that is written like an advertisement.(June 2016)
[edit]Definition of the issue contained in the template message
[edit]"Wikipedia is not a soapbox, a battleground, or a vehicle for propaganda, advertising and showcasing." Source: WP:NOTADVERTISING
My response
[edit]- I reviewed the article.
- This article does not show any of the aforementioned qualities.
- The article is written in a sober, quiet, factual manner, which is a far cry from "soapbox, battleground..propaganda".
Action taken
[edit]Because the template message "This article contains content that is written like an advertisement" is false, I am removing it.
Message #2: A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject.(June 2016)
[edit]Definition of the issue contained in the template message
[edit]"Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial or other relationships. Any external relationship can trigger a conflict of interest. (The word interest refers here to something in which a person has a stake.)" Source: WP:COI
My response
[edit]- When you look at the edit history of the article, you will see that I made the vast majority of edits.
- For the record, I have never met, talked to, corresponded with, or done any of those things through any intermediary with Muneer Satter.
- I've never received a dime from him or anyone else to edit his article.
- I am a biotechnology student. I have been studying the intersection of the private sector, philanthropic organizations, and biotechnology research.
- I discovered who Satter was last year, and was fascinated and impressed.
- Around January, I had an interest in learning how to edit and write for Wikipedia.
- So naturally, I choose Mr. Satter's article.
Action taken
[edit]Because the template message "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject" is false, I am removing it.
Message #3: This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject, potentially preventing the article from being verifiable and neutral. (June 2016)
[edit]Fixing the issue
[edit]- Many of the sources are legitimate, reliable third-party sources.
- Anyone can scan the References section and see for themselves.
- Today, however I made a change.
- However, I agree with the template message. Many of the sources are companies that he sits on their corporate boards.
- BEFORE today's revision: The Career/Sattter Investment Management section contained 9 bullet points, each with a name of a company the subject invested in, and a description of the company, along with a reference/source that violates the rule we're discussing here.
- AFTER today's revision: The Career/Sattter Investment Management section contains 9 bullet points, which simply list the names of the companies (and no longer list the extraneous and non-germane information about the companies.
Action taken
[edit]Because the template message "This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject, potentially preventing the article from being verifiable and neutral" is no longer true due to the fix, I am removing it.
