Does anybody know whether "Mumming" or "Mummers Play" are in any way related to Mummenschanz? Bernburgerin 19:50, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From this it looks like not. They're claiming a different etymology. (I'm unwilling to look further. morris men scare me :P )
"Mummenschanz (meaning roughly masquerade)...". Finding out what masquerade translates as in Swiss might help our article (i'm guessing something close?). --Quiddity 21:04, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, maybe so. I looked further in their site, and the description of their dvd (!) reads
"The silent stage art of "Mummenschanz" went about the world and is valid as unique phenomenon since soon 30 years. What is mummery? How thinks and Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schürch, the people behind mummery, work? What are her/its/their goals? In what is the secret of her/its/their overpowering success? Kamal pursued these questions mash ale in his/its revealing documentary. Video VHS, run 54 min".
hmm. --Quiddity 21:43, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article does not seem neutral. The history section reads like an advertisement and / or PR for the troupe and is all opinion and no fact - "The name Mummenschanz became, in a bit more than three decades, all around the world, the embodiment of contemporary Mask Theatre. Without spoken word, completely visual and without any music or set, just with masks and bodies. Mummenschanz has invented a new, universal and entertaining language of motions, whose expressions can be understood by everybody all around the world." A claim such as "Mummenschanz has invented a new, universal and entertaining language of motions" cannot be considered neutral in the least. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.135.180.153 (talk)

Agree entirely. It needs revision. BloodDoc
