Contradiction
[edit]The article says:
- "Mr. Lee" was written about a schoolteacher members of the group had. Contrary to popular belief, the song was originally written not to ridicule but to describe their former teacher. Upon meeting executives from Atlantic Records, Atlantic had the lyrics of "Mr. Lee" changed to create a love song. Atlantic demanded the original lyric "ugliest teacher" to be changed to "handsomest teacher".
If the original lyrics called Mr. Lee the "ugliest teacher", then the popular belief that it was written to ridicule him would be correct. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:28, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
- The provided source, Clemente, says both:
- page 62: The group denied they were putting him down. The song was a true description. [factual, no intent to ridicule]
- page 63: Based on Reather's quote at the bottom, the original lyric could be perceived as derogatory. [perception of ridicule]
- I am rewording the paragraph to take care of both intent and perception. Aithus (talk) 12:11, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
