- Does the fact that it used to be called the Eastern Transvaal need to be in the opening sentence? It's not really that important - it was twelve years ago! Joziboy 11:24, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's fairly common to have alternative or previous names listed at the beginning of the article (you know, like "Xxx (also known as yyy; formerly zzz) is..."). I don't think it needs to have the date and all that; maybe if it just said "Mpumalanga (formerly the Eastern Transvaal)..." and the details about the date of the change and so on could be elsewhere (or not in the article at all). - htonl 20:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
pronunciation
[edit]I added the pronunciation per the audio link. I was rather surprised to hear an initial vowel, so please correct if I got it wrong. kwami 10:57, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Mp(h)umalanga
[edit]Please note tha Mphumalanga is spelled with the'h'. This word is formed from the word 'phuma' which means "rising". There is no such a word as 'puma' in the Nguni Languages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.16.50.230 (talk) 14:38, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that may be so, but the name of the province as laid down in the Constitution doesn't have an "h" in it. - htonl (talk) 18:15, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
