Infobox
[edit]Is this a standard infobox for School article ? I'm not familiar with the practice of using infoboxes. --Darren Wyn Rees (talk) 12:41, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
School Motto
[edit]There is a conflict between the school motto given in the main text and in the infobox:
- Main text: The school's motto is Deuparth Bonedd yw Dysg which in English means "The Root of Nobility Lies in Education"
- Infobox: Every Child Will Succeed - Bydd Pob Plentyn Yn Llwyddo
I changed the infobox version recently, which is from the school's prospectus. Deuparth Bonedd yw Dysg is currently unsourced, but is in the school's crest shown on their Twitter page.
So which is the "official" motto. In my view the "Deuparth" version seems more official, as it is on the school's crest. The "Every child" version is perhaps a slogan rather than a motto. I will change the infobox and add a citation of the Twitter page. We don't have a source for the English translation. Google Translate gives "Learning is a two-thirds Gentry", which at first sight is gibberish but give credibility to "The Root of Nobility Lies in Education". - As homepage has "Every Child Will Succeed" we should also give this, but I suggest only in the main text (as the infobox should be a summary). This is not a translation of "Deuparth Bonedd yw Dysg". Verbcatcher (talk) 20:45, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Formation of comprehensive school
[edit]Many comprehensive schools were formed by the combination of two are more schools when selective education was abolished. MACS was formed from Mountain Ash Grammar School, which was attended by pupils who passed the eleven plus exam. It seems likely that there was also a secondary modern school for those tho failed the eleven plus. This school may have been amalgamated to form MAGS.
This is confirmed by this anonymous comment], which says "In the late 1960s, Mountain Ash Comprehensive School was formed by the amalgamation of Mountain Ash Grammar School, Abertaf Selective Secondary Modern (in Abercynon) and Bryngolwg Secondary Modern in Mountain Ash." This is not a citable source. Can we find a citable source to confirm this? Verbcatcher (talk) 22:52, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
