[edit]I removed the links to commercial sites, per WP:EL and WP:NOT#LINK. If they continue to be re-inserted, then I suggest using the advice from Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spam#What_to_do_with_linkfarms and just add a single link to {{dmoz}} where all of the commercial links could instead be inserted. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 01:49, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Zoning link
[edit]Mt. Pleasant, MI - Planning and Zoning Administration contains accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to the amount of detail. The site documents conduct not typically associated with city administration. Failure to include the link misleads the public and fosters continuation of the conduct described therein.--BozWikii (talk) 07:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- The site appears to be unofficial and unmoderated. There is no obligation to include links to such sites. older ≠ wiser 09:44, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- There is no obligation to include or exclude the link. I fail to see any benefit from excluding the link. Providing the reader with documentation of the city's administrative idiosyncrasies may be beneficial and certainly causes no harm. Please reconsider link exclusion.--BozWikii (talk) 13:56, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- What is the authority of the site? It appears to be nothing more than a gripe site. older ≠ wiser 14:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- The site in question appears to be a non-notable complaint site which also fails inclusion criteria under WP:USCITY, WP:EL, and WP:NOT#REPOSITORY. The article already contains a link to the Open Directory Project, which is a more appropriate venue for submitting such links. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 15:32, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Site authority includes commission and ZBA meeting minutes (links provided), correspondence to/from city officials, state statutes (MZEA and OMA), Mount Pleasant City Code Chapter 154 Zoning Ordinances. The conclusion that a compilation of factual statements and supporting materials constitutes no more than a 'gripe site' is the strongest argument favoring link inclusion. There is disparity between typical expectations regarding the functioning of city administration and the administrative reality of this city.
- WP:USCITY excerpt: Government - This section should include a description of the local city government, such as the mayor's office, city council or legislature, city manager (if applicable), and how these entities interact. For larger cities, you might include information on the local government politics as well.
- WP:EL excerpt: What should be linked - Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks) or other reasons.
- WP:NOT#REPOSITORY excerpt: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to an article; ...
- Thank you for your consideration--BozWikii (talk) 19:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- The links in the left navbar of your website that go to the commission and ZBA meeting minutes are direct links to subsections of the www.mt-pleasant.org website. Having a directory that points to the official site does not automatically grant your site the same authority. If those links were appropriate for an article on a city; we could just bypass your site and add links directly to the official sub-domains of the official site. However, WP:EL also states "try to avoid separate links to multiple pages in the same website; instead, try to find an appropriate linking page within the site." As the main link to the official site already exists in the article, there's no need to add the additional links to the subpages of the meeting minutes.
- Also, the relevant section of WP:USCITY is the external links section which states "A link to some of the official websites should be provided here, such as the official city government, the chamber of commerce, and the convention & visitors bureau. Providing links to every commercial, educational, or other entity within the city is not appropriate for this section." --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 19:54, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the constructive/instructive feedback. Submitted site to the Open Directory Project with description: Documentation of administrative conduct and responses to inquiry when conduct and regulatory provisions conflict. Apparently administrative conduct is not constrained by regulatory provisions, no explanation required.--BozWikii (talk) 14:30, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
City Name
[edit]What is the origin of the city's name? I think that would be a rather important piece of information to include in the history sub-section. --Criticalthinker (talk) 03:13, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps this could be revisited? The area around there is quite flat. Was it just named ironically I wonder? I found this article suggesting something different but I doubt its accuracy: https://charlestoncitypaper.com/why-mt-pleasant-is-called-mt-pleasant-hint-get-ready-to-blush/. kev. - the article you reference here is talking about Mt. Pleasant, SC; judging by the fact it’s written in a Charleston based news source. so, i don’t believe in its relevance here. Aidan T Bonner (talk) 20:45, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
