   This is awkward: gave significant resistance. Missing word "troops or soldiers" in 2nd para of lede. Delete the comma after "his army" in the 1st sentence of the background section. Add comma after Rhode Island in the next sentence. "Otherwise" been in a standoff? Cannon is both singular and plural. Dwelling house?
