Expand to include other ambulance services
[edit]There are historical photos of WWI motorcycle ambulances available [23]; needs research and coverage. There are also motorcycle medical responders in London and elsewhere that should be included: [24], [25], [26], etc.--Dbratland (talk) 03:11, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Making the distinction between a solo motorcycle ambulance and sidecar motorcycle ambulance
[edit]A solo motorcycle ambulance is a normal or modified motorbike used in medical related capacity. A sidecar motorcycle ambulance is designed for purpose, normally to carry a patient. Is this an sufficient enough distinction to justify a new page of can this differnec be better presented on a single page as we have here. What do others think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pete.sonderskov (talk • contribs) 16:20, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- No. In common usage today, the term "motorcycle ambulance" is applied to both motorcycles that only transport paramedics and also to those that carry patients; this can be verified by searching. Generally, the Wikipedia:Naming conventions are to follow ordinary usage and not try to overcorrect everyday language. The original French term ambulance meant a military mobile hospital that delivered medical services to where the patients were, rather than them coming to the hospital. So in that sense it applies also, as a bike that brings medical help and supplies.
- If the sections grow too large, the logical split would be along these lines, as per the pattern in Wikipedia:Summary style, but I don't think this article will grow that large very soon.--Dbratland (talk) 16:55, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Very helpful thanks
[edit]I now continue to add material on different applications of motorcycle ambulancs, including motorcycle clinics, used in immunization work. (Pete)
motorcycle cinemas, where could they go
[edit]They are perhaps just a varient of a sidecar. (Pete)
Australia
[edit]There are motorcycle ambulances in at least New South Wales. I'd look stuff up and add a section myself, but I'm lazy and in the middle of something else. 14.201.65.122 (talk) 06:57, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Ambulance?
[edit]Isn't the definition of an ambulance a vehicle used to transport patients? Now any vehicle that carries first responders to provide medical care on site is considered an "ambulance"? What does that make a doctor's sedan used to respond to emergency house calls in a rural area then? Is that also an ambulance, since it carries medical personnel to the scene? Is a fireman's pickup a "fire truck" since it carries firemen to a fire and has lights?

- We go by what reliable sources say, rather than making technical determinations of the sort you suggest. If reliable sources categorize a motorcycle as an ambulance that's why it would be included. Of course the dependability of the source can be debated, and it gets interesting if sources disagree. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:39, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
