Speculation
[edit]Including speculation as to why he was no longer part of the quorum is not fair to the person or the Church. --Archf 1 (talk) 07:38, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

This article twice makes reference to the fact that Moses Thatcher was removed from the quorum, but retained the office of apostle until his death...
Historical documents contradict this statement.
According to this entry in Wilford Woodruff's Journal (entry for Nov. 19, 1896), his apostleship and all priesthood offices were revoked:
"The Twelve Apostles held a Meeting in the Historians Office at 10 oclock this morning And the following Notice is the Result of there work published in the Deseret News of Nov 10 /96: "Notice "To the Officers and Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. "This is to inform you that At a Meeting of the Council of the Apostles held this Day (Thursday Nov 19 1896) There being Present Lorenzo Snow, Franklin D Richards, Brigham Young, Francis M Lyman, John Henry Smith, George Teasdale, Heber J Grant, John W Taylor, Marriner W Merrill, And Anthon H. Lund, which Meeting was Called for the purpose of Considering and taking Action on the Case of Elder Moses Thatcher and of which Meeting and its object He had been Duly Notified After a full Consideration of all the Circumstances of the Case And after Each Apostle present had Expressed himself upon the subject it was unanimously Decided that Moses Thatcher be severed from the Council of the Twelve Apostles and that He be deprived of his Apostleship And other Offices in the Priesthood. Lorenzo Snow President Council of Twelve of Apostle." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.14.224.30 (talk • contribs) 06:23, 11 August 2009
I went through to try and fix the sections without citations, but after a cursory internet search was only able to come up with a few primary sources that I added. Any help to bring the article to standard would be appreciated.

[edit]Before I began editing this article there were few citations and it read like an academic article with a lot of opinions. I was able to add what I could, but the article still smells of academia and the American Historical Association. Jmjosh90 (talk) 16:59, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
