Relevance of the town's name
[edit]I'm very dubious about the assertion that the word Mortlake means 'dead water'! I'd be more convinced that the town was named after the English place of the same name, a district in Greater London (the immediate area has many town names borrowed from England, such as Hexham, Framlingham, Darlington, etc). As such, the word is probably from old english rather than some portmanteau of imagined french or latin and modern english. Further to that, I doubt the original meaning of the word (whatever its origin) has any bearing on the history of this town, so it's also an irrelevance in the article. As such, I'm removing that bit. Bluenevus (talk) 23:15, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
