first cousin once removed
[edit]Although it has been reported that Betts is a nephew of Terry Shumpert,[70] who played parts of 14 seasons with several MLB teams[71], they are actually second cousins, as Shumpert is a first cousin to Betts' mother Diana.
No, not second cousins but first cousins once removed...verify this on Wikipedia's "cousin" page...96.237.184.103 (talk) 13:50, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Mookie Betts is heading to the dodgers.
[edit]They have agreed to a deal that will send Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Why can't we report that the deal has been made? It is a current event fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jarmusic2 (talk • contribs) 03:29, 6 February 2020 (UTC) Here is the source form MLB itself stating that IN FACT. MOOKIE BETTS has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, therefore Wikipedia is old and outdated information. [1] here is another reliable source from the La times no less [2] her's one from CBS the people who give you the world news every night. I think they know what they are talking about. [3] . MOOKIE BETTS IS A LOS ANGELES DODGERS, I WOULD BET THE REST OF MY PAYCHECKS FOR THE WHOLE ENTIRE YEAR OF 2020 THAT HE IS AND WILL BE A LOS ANGELES DODGER. PLEASE UPDATE THIS OLD AND OUTDATED PAGE IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS SUCH A TRAVESTY. Jarmusic2 (talk) 09:10, 6 February 2020 (UTC)jarmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 09:10, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- The deal is NOT official.. and is in fact in danger as the result of player's medicals holding it up [1]. That is why we don't jump the gun on these things. Spanneraol (talk) 14:08, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Jarmusic2: see WP:DEADLINE. There is NO hurry, we are not writing a newspaper, and it is not worth the stress. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:50, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
So I am guessing that He is not a dodger, and Boston Did not agree to a contract to trade him to The Los Angeles Dodgers. very interesting, I was under the impression there was a trade and A deal that was made, the whole world was talking about it, but If @Wikipedia did not Report it then It must be false information. Please keep me informed on this subject as I am very interested in this player and Wikipedia is a good source of information. I do most of my reading from this site and It is good to know that the true correct information comes from people like you and others. Thank you and have a good day. I guess the rest of the world must be giving out false information.[4] [5] Jarmusic2 (talk) 10:22, 9 February 2020 (UTC)jarmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 10:22, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- Jarmusic2, Did you read the comment of Spanneraol and me? Did you see the title of the second mlb.com news item ('mookie betts rumors'). What you say may very well be true, but there are still caveats to the deal (as Spanneraol said), and Wikipedia is not a news website - things do not have to be reported here as they happen, Wikipedia is (often) late to news. Dirk Beetstra T C 10:33, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Explain to me this Manuel Margot was traded on 2/8/2020 and a few hours later his Wikipedia Page was updated to reflect his current team Rays, Yet Mookie Betts was traded a over a few days ago and Is still listed as a Redsox. am I to understand there is some bias here and favoritism? I am just trying to figure out why some players get edited when they are traded and other players do not. It does not seem fair. Good night everyone. I hope this deal Goes through and He gets put Under LOS ANGELES DODGER, where he currently is traded to. It is very frustrating trying to update a person's bio when the persons page is locked and Can't be changed and his information is old and outdated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jarmusic2 (talk • contribs)
- Jarmusic2 Sigh .. you really had to push it right. Can you please review WP:POINT and as well? -Dirk Beetstra T C 12:15, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- The difference is that the team's announced the Margot deal and it became official. The Betts deal has still not been announced and at this point is in serious danger of falling apart. The Twins pulled out of the three team transaction so there is no current deal. This whole thing is the reason why we don't jump the gun on these. He is not a Dodger and he may never become one. Spanneraol (talk) 14:46, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- Jarmusic2, the Rays and Padres trading Pagan for Margot is far less complicated than any three team trade, not to mention one including as much salary as the proposed Betts-Price trade. That's why we wait for confirmation that a deal is done, because trades can be so complicated that things like medicals (and in this case, potentially the bad press Boston was getting) can torpedo deals that "seem to be" done. Jon Heyman and whoever else were breathlessly reporting this on Tuesday have a career-based incentive to get the story out as quickly as they can, to produce compelling content for their readers. That is not what Wikipedia is about. They are breaking news, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions for more, including transactions that were reported as done deals, but then fell through. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:39, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
TRADE IS NOW OFFICIAL PLEASE CHANGE — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willmeyers24 (talk • contribs) 22:47, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- Willmeyers24, ffs. Did we learn nothing from all of this? I see MLBTR is reporting a reconfigured deal has been agreed upon. That's not confirmation that it's a done deal, it's still beat writers trying to get clicks from BREAKING NEWS, which we do not traffic in. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:56, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
I Have just confirmed that the Deal Between Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers is complete. per espn[6] I would like His information to be updated to reflect his current team the Los Angeles Dodgers instead of his old team the Boston Red Sox I also Have a second Source [7]. If this information Is not change I will be seeking the article to be changed as There Is a reliable source that says the Deal is done[8] AND HE IS FINALLY A DODGER. Thank you all for your cooperation in this matter. I hope this doesn't drag on anymore as Manuel Margot was traded 1 day ago and his information was updated in a few hours. Thank you all and have a good night. Jarmusic2 (talk) 06:26, 10 February 2020 (UTC)jarmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 06:26, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Please change it Mastergerwe97 (talk) 06:29, 10 February 2020 (UTC) @Mastergerwe97 They don't want to listen, The admins on here have tunnel vision and Do not want to listen to us. There could be a picture of Mookie Betts himself with a dodger uniform and fans saying welcome to LA and they will not change it. I have given them many reliable sources such as this one[9] which states that a deal is done. This one from CBS the people who give us the world news. They still believe that He is a Boston Red sox and there will be no way to change there mind. No matter how many sources that we give them they don't want to change it and I still don't understand. Manuel Margot was traded to The Rays a few days ago and his information was updated a few hours later. It's a case of "Pick and Choose"
Also the person Suffering Is Mookie Betts himself. The whole world Including him Knows That he is a Dodger and is Heading to LA, Yet in wikipedia's eyes, he is and always will be a boston Red sox or at least until the simi- protection is lifted and we are able to change it. Those edits that they called Vandalism are currently the truth and they are the ones vandalising Mookie Betts legacy. I hope this gets fixed asap — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jarmusic2 (talk • contribs)
- Come on, man. Bring the drama down a notch. Betts isn't suffering in the least. The Margot and Betts situations have been explained to you - and all in the last day or two. Do you remember what we said about the Margot situation and why it's different than this one? Do you remember what we said we are waiting on in the Betts case that we already have for Margot? Is it worth it to to continue trying to explain anything to you? Larry Hockett (Talk) 10:32, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Please change Extended confirmed protection to Simi-protected as Mookie Betts Is no longer a Boston Red Sox, The deal has been confirmed and he is heading to LA to play for the Dodgers.[10] [11] [12] [13]. His information needs to be changed to reflect his new team the Los Angeles Dodgers.Jarmusic2 (talk) 10:30, 10 February 2020 (UTC)jasrmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 10:30, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
You know who you have to thank for getting this article into the protected state it is. {{edit request}} is there to serve you. Seen the dramah that is being raised here I think that it is good that the article stays protected so there is proper control regarding the change of information. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:40, 10 February 2020 (UTC) @Larry HockettWell I am done trying to deal with this wikipedia and it's old and outdated information. I will try to become an administrator so I can fix these mistakes myself or if that is impossible, create my own encyclopedia website where when something happens It gets changed up to the minuet. If We changed Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers and he goes to the dodgers then what a relief that would be. If We change Betts to the Dodgers and the deal somehow ended up not going through, (witch It is already done as we have clearly stated) then we just simply change it back to whatever team he ends up with. What a concept that would be. Up to the minute editing. Also @Dirk Beetstra I do believe that there should be control over the information being posted, that is why we are asking you guys to change it to the CORRECT and CURRENT information, witch is and will be for a Whole year, (unless he gets traded) The Los Angeles Dodgers. Simple 1 minuet edit and all this Dramah goes far far away. And if for some reason the deal end's up going in the trash, you just simply change it to whatever needs to be. #FixWikipedia #Updatetheold. sincerely Jarmusic2 (talk) 12:51, 10 February 2020 (UTC)jarmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 12:51, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- They still have not announced the trade.. so it is still not official. We have explained all this stuff to you. Can you read? Spanneraol (talk) 14:09, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- NOW it is done. Spanneraol (talk) 00:47, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- Spanneraol, thank the lord. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:25, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

(overkill) I was right, I said I would give up years Paycheck if he didn't become a dodger. But in Fact, Mookie Betts would became Dodger. If you guys would have listened to us from the get go and changed the information, we would have saved a lot of headaches. the worst that could have happend is he didn't become a dodger and you change the information again. You'all will learn one day.Jarmusic2 (talk) 12:11, 16 February 2020 (UTC)jarmusic2Jarmusic2 (talk) 12:11, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- You could have relaxed and waiting till it became official. at the time you wanted it changed he was not a Dodger.. so we would have been adding incorrect information. This is an encyclopedia.. we only add factual information not speculative info.. you will learn one day. Spanneraol (talk) 14:43, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- Jarmusic2, you were not right. You gave yourself the headache. I see in your edit history that you were the one pushing as hard on the Gerrit Cole signing as you did on this. If we went through with the changes right away, we would've listed Brusdar Graterol as going to Boston, and that was proven wrong. You haven't learned yet. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:36, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Information to be added or removed: Please add some recognition of being a two time Taco Hero. Explanation of issue: Betts is the only person to ever accomplish this feat twice and it deserves to be recognized, particularly in a year where every bit of positive news can go a long way.
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Asartea Trick | Treat 04:34, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
Income oversight
[edit]In 2013, four-time All-Star second baseman Dustin Pedroia signed an eight-year, $110 million contract extension with the Red Sox, leading to speculation that the Red Sox would groom Betts for a new position.
That must sting. As far as you can tell from this article, Mookie has $750,000 total career earnings, having continued to play for charity ever since that original contract expired.
This seemed unlikely, so I did a Google search.
So he is actually getting paid, at least since 2020. — MaxEnt 16:26, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- MaxEnt, thank you for pointing out that bit of information that is missing from the article. His arbitration salaries should be added. He made $10.5 million in 2018 and $20 million in 2019. Feel free to add this. Or I will when I get around to it. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:42, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Tacos
[edit]Mookie Betts is the only person to ever win America free tacos twice. This is important and should be documented for future generations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbisbee4 (talk • contribs) 02:42, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
