Move?

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was page moved. Consensus is clear that a rename is needed, the issue is to what. This seems to be the title with the most support. Looking at the parent category is little help since it contains many variations. So this move is to address the concerns that the page needs moving. If consensus develops for a different name in the future, the page can be moved again. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:16, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CarabinsMontreal Carabins

  • I agree that the article needs to be renamed (after all, 70.29.209.91 mentioned that a "carabin" is a type of calvary). I just don't know if "UdeM Carabins" will work since they don't seem to identify themselves that way. Could this be an exception to WP:COMMONNAME where it'll be renamed "Université de Montréal Carabins" instead? -Mabeenot (talk) 09:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move to Montreal Carabins. "Carabins" on its own may be somewhat non-unique, otherwise I would not necessarily jump to writing it off as a useful article name. It is normal, in English Canadian use, to call teams by University name - Team name and there is evidence in GoogleNews of that use. I do not see any evidence that there was ever a Montreal carabins unit and, if there was, it is unlikely to be called that and is certainly not the WP:PRIMARYUSAGE of the term. I choose not to use UdeM because, although that is a common short form, I think some context is already assumed when one uses it. I also choose not to use Montréal because Montreal is in common use in English as the Google search demonstrates, as per WP:CANSTYLE#French names. The full form, "Université de Montréal Carabins", is somewhat acceptable as being accurate but suffers from being too formal and not the way it is generally referred or linked to. It is better to use the common English name, Montreal Carabins. DoubleBlue (talk) 22:21, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
