MP list
[edit]Two points:
1). I think listing an MP as "independent" in an era before any form of organised party is counter intuitive. Is there a link to something like "pre partisan politics" which might more accurately reflect the situation?
2). I was always under the impression that the seat was a Liberal gain at the 1880 election - certainly everyone expected 1980 to see 100 years of continuous Liberal hold (ignoring Clement Davies) - and forgot to actually campaign! And Charles Watkin Williams-Wynn's 16 years as a Conservative MP doesn't exactly fit "Montgomeryshire has elected Liberal or Liberal-affiliated candidates for centuries", which in any case gets messy as before 1784 (and even afterwards) you get into a mess where almost everyone called themselves a "Whig" and for a time "parties" in Parliament were personality based factions. Gaps
[edit]The table contains several gaps (1624-1799, 1850-1863, 1877-1880). Who held the seat in these years? Drutt 19:19, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, here is a list of the missing members. Unfortunately it does not state party affiliation, so I'll leave that field blank. Drutt 06:43, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- Too bad, I can't seem to do this without messing up the table. Drutt 07:00, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Wikilinks to MPs
[edit]Hello, I recently added a 'wikify' tag, asking for wikilinks to be added to the many MPs in this article who lack them. I've been adding in a lot myself, but there's still a lot to do. User:Doktorbuk has twice removed the tag, and gave the reason at User talk:Boleyn as: There's no chance that people are going to start articles - hundreds and hundreds of MPs, often pre-19th century. Your tags are messy, to the point of vandalism, and I will be deleting them ALL.
This seems to be escalating into an edit war, also involving other constituency articles, and I'm hoping to avoid this. My response to Doktobuk was that peopel - including myself - will create articles on pre-19th century MPs. What do others think? Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 12:46, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Different Parliaments
[edit]Although this may be a UK Parliament constituency now, the list goes back to when the seat was for the Parliament of England. This ceased to exist in 1707 when the Parliament of Great Britain came into being. This again changed in 1801 when the Parliament of the United Kingdom came into being. The list should reflect the change in status of the MPs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.53.105.31 (talk) 21:15, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Craig Williams, 2024 General Election
[edit]Craig Williams is not an “independent” - as the Conservatives withdrew support after the nominations closed, he will appear on the ballot paper as a Conservative. Should he win, he will sit as an independent, but could regain the Conservative whip in future. Joeldelusional (talk) 10:51, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
