As a pre-1978 sculpture, can someone confirm there is no copyright mark or notice on the sculpture? If not then any freely licenced images are fine but if there is such a notice the images are derivative works and would need the consent of the sculptor. ww2censor (talk) 13:30, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How can I check? --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 16:11, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By inspecting the whole sculpture in detail. ww2censor (talk) 18:12, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly is needed for it to be in public domain? I see no copyright notices there. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 22:04, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Pre-1978 US sculptures are in the public domain if they were installed between 1923-1977 and are publicly displayed without any copyright notice and if the copyright was not renewed. None of the images you linked to are close enough to show all the sculpture in detail to see if the artist added a copyright mark or notice. If none exists on the sculpture then it is likely in the public domain but if there is a notice, or if the copyright was renewed (I did a Smithsonian search and didn't see any renewal) it is still copyright and all images are derivative works that require permission from both the sculptor and the photographer. You may find it useful to also read the artworks and sculpture section of commons:Commons:FOP#United States. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 03:11, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for thr detailed information. I added the "PD-US-no notice" template to the images, because I think that Smithsonian Museum search is reliable.--Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 23:39, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
