Misc article improvement stuff
Hey, anyone notice that for some unfathomable reason, we have a "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{Reflist}} template or a <references /> tag; see the help page." in bright red at the very bottom of the page? This in spite of a properly formated refs section? Anyone know how to make that go away? I can't figure out how to do so... Montanabw(talk) 00:08, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Religion
The source cited for religious affiliation percentages (the source is [1]) includes data for Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu. From the basic map that is shown, select any religious tradition. This view shows the breakdown of the entire US. Then, click on Montana on the map. The breakdown now shows the data for Montana (combined with Wyoming), including Muslim (<0.5%), Buddhist (1%) and Hindu (<0.5%). There is apparently no direct link to the Montana/Wyoming specific view, but the data is directly available (no WP:SYNTH).
The recent spate of edits/reverts are due to an anonymous editor using several different IP addresses (110.93.92.157, 110.93.92.69, 110.93.92.142, 110.93.92.227) deleting the (sourced) percentages for Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu. With this edit, I re-added the percentages for these religions (including the "less than" for Muslim and Hindu).
Is there any particular reason the percentages for these religions should be deleted?
Is there any reason not to show Muslim and Hindu as "<0.5%" (as indicated by the source) rather than "0.5%"?
Note that the same user is doing the same thing at the Wyoming article, and is currently blocked due to WP:3RR. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:19, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm. When I pull down the menu, it was cutting off after the first 6-8 traditions, but I tried a different browser and got the rest. I see your point, Rick. So I'm OK with <0.5%. The other sourcing was slightly problematic, though, as we are using sfn format for all footnotes, and it's very helpful when people new to the article put the same formatting in, we hope to put it up for GA eventually (lost our lead editor behind the push, but...) Antipodes
The section mentioning that only two US states have land antipodes is off- in addition to Colorado and Montana, Hawaii is antipodal to Botswana, and Alaska is antipodal to Antarctica. 50.58.204.5 (talk) 14:56, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's not wrong. The paragraph says continental states. - Tim1965 (talk) 22:18, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Mislabeling of contributions
It was good that you added back the substantive new content I added about IEFA and some of Montana's educational initiatives, and how other states have adopted them. It was odd that you labeled it as "cleanup" in your summary.Parkwells (talk) 14:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- You have a bad habit of adding material that exceeds the footnotes used to cite a section, it isn't that you are necessarily adding bad material, it's that you are adding it in a way that creates a bunch of work for everyone else because you aren't careful enough with your citation. There was a push to take this article to GA a while back, that got derailed due to lack of enough people, but at least we don't want to go backwards and see the citations and content get worse. Montanabw(talk) 13:40, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Tribal education - agency of tribes
The reason I changed the wording about the tribal colleges was to show tribal nations as initiators and agents of the actions. They were the ones to develop the tribal colleges. Your wording suggested that the state of Montana should be credited for the results - that each of the reservations has a tribal college. I am going to change it back to my version.Parkwells (talk) 14:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- You have no source, the source cited is a deadlink. You may be right, but you have to source properly. Montanabw(talk) 13:42, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Languages
There are a lot of different sources based on different data, with the MLA, three Census figures, DOEd 2009 study (different set) and Lewis|Simons|Fennig|2013. But why not put the studies in chronological order? In the material by Lewis|Simons|Fennig|2013, the only non-Native American language is German Hutterite; I thought it was easier for readers to see that if it were listed after the Native American languages, rather than being buried in the list.Parkwells (talk) 19:54, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Citation problems again and style. The languages were grouped and your structure ungrouped them, better to do a footnote twice if needed. Montanabw(talk) 13:44, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Correction please: Like 44 other States no one in Montana has immunity from prosecution. No doctor, nurse, caregiver, heir, new best friend nor predatory corporation has immunity. Here is the rest of the story. Your source has done you a disservice. Their foundation is crumbling under the weight of non transparent pitfalls. The promoters of assisted suicide have worn out their thesaurus attempting to imply that it is legal in Montana. Assisted suicide is a homicide in Montana. Our MT Supreme Court did ruled that if a doctor is charged with a homicide they might have a potential defense based on consent. The MT Supreme Court acknowledged it is a homicide in the ruling.
The Court did not address civil liabilities and they vacated the lower court’s claim that it was a constitutional right. Unlike Oregon no one in Montana has immunity from civil or criminal prosecution, death certificates are not legally falsified and investigations are not prohibited like in OR, WA and CA. Does that sound legal to you?
Perhaps the promoters are frustrated that even though they were the largest lobbying spender in Montana their Oregon model legalizing assisted suicide bills have been rejected in Montana in 2011, 2013 and 2015. The predatory corporation abandoned their bullying legislative effort in 2017. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BradleyMTaas (talk • contribs) 23:27, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Elevation
The page says: "The Beartooth Plateau is the largest continuous land mass over 10,000 feet (3,000 m) high in the continental United States." This appears to be far from correct. The Western Regional Climate Center says: "Roughly three-quarters of the Nation's land above 10,000 feet altitude lies within [Colorado's] borders." and Mathematica's GeoElevationData seems to indicate that well over half of the Colorado land above 10,000 feet is in one contiguous region. I know that Wikipedia doesn't accept original research. Still . . . 128.187.112.7 (talk) 20:41, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Montana’s real history
Boy, the wiki page Seriously lacks context. It’s like the state doesn’t even have Native Americans in it. I don’t know who compiled this probably the historical society (Snark). This page doesn’t even list native American tribes in the very beginning when it lists Montana stats . Wow… don’t you find that kind of racist? I do. 2600:100E:B1CB:E9EF:846F:403A:81A2:F76C (talk) 02:39, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Bozeman Is Now A Metropolitan Area
According to the US Census Bureau, a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is an area in which the principal city has a population of 50,000 or higher which Bozeman does.
A Micropolitan Statistical Area has a principal city with a population of “greater than 10,000 but less than 50,000”.
This needs to be updated on both the Montana page as well as Bozeman’s.
I have tried to correct it but it was removed. 69.51.84.10 (talk) 17:51, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Consider combining Bibliography and References sections
Many items are double listed between the two sections and seem to simply pad the length of the article. Is there a reason for this? MountainBarley (talk) 08:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Doing things this way makes the "References" section less cluttered with the full references, so citing different pages from the same source is easier. It's a pretty common way of doing things in larger articles. Elli (talk | contribs) 08:29, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. MountainBarley (talk) 09:27, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
