"Town"
[edit]Montacute is a (very small) town with a much larger rural hinterland. By Adelaide Hills convention, such small populated places are called towns rather than their British equivalent of "village", which would probably be more accurate. However, "rural area" implies no town centre (for want of a better term) at all, which is not the case. This link] can verify the existing classification as "town". --Yeti Hunter (talk) 06:58, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Wrong information
[edit]Yeti Hunter Montacute is a very large geographic area running from Woodforde in the west to Mawson Rd, Lenswood in the east and you are very wrong in saying it occurs in the Fifth Creek valley. I live on the Corkscrew Rd which is in the Sixth Creek valley and we are very much in Montacute. So when I correct your incorrect statements how about you stop changing it back.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Billspragg (talk • contribs) 01:29, 24 August 2011
- I think I see the confusion here. I'm sure there is no objection to the statement that the small town, Montacute, is located on Montacute Road on Fifth Creek (Gmaps, Streetview of township sign, Adelaide Hills Council), and yet you are certainly correct in stating that the rural area encompasses a much wider area, including Sixth Creek and as far east as Mawsons Road (PropertyAssist provides an accurate map). I'll edit the entry to reflect this. --Yeti Hunter (talk) 09:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeti Hunter you may want to call Institute Rd Montacute a town but there is no gazetted township area in Montacute and you are splitting hairs trying to justify your argument. The rural hinterland you refer to is largely devoid of population. The area you are referring to as a town is mostly market gardens and orchards so it is hard to see the density of houses you require for a town. What you are doing is exactly why wikipedia cannot be used as a definitive reference and people constantly talk about misinformation. Stop trying make yourself an authority and accept the fact that many areas in the Adelaide Hills have no official or unofficial town. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Billspragg (talk • contribs) 05:12, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- I refer you again to the website of the Adelaide Hills Council, which quite unambiguously describes Montacute as a "town". The council has also erected two of those charming little surfboard township signs a few hundred metres before and after the spring gully road intersection, so it would seem that the council is pretty sure Montacute qualifies as a town even if its Mayor is of the opposite opinion. Misinformation? Au contraire, the reason people do trust Wikipedia is that it takes its information from reliable, secondary sources and not from original research - neither your's, nor mine or anyone's.--Yeti Hunter (talk) 09:09, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
