Page rename

The article cited Autié's memoirs for a number of different versions of his name, but I wasn't able to find them in this source. Di Profio reproduces some letters ca. 1817 which are signed "Léonard Autié". Also he is indexed by Lister under "Autié, Léonard". Thanks for taking an interest. You link to a cover of a translation of his autobiography. I've been trying to find a scan of this online but had no success - just fragments. I'll see if the BL has it as I'm hoping this will clarify the issue of his name(s). My impression is that Léonard was a name which he adopted for professional reasons but we shall see. Actually it's most of it (some pages are missing). [I'm referring to the Gallica copy in French: [1].] You have to click the page-turn arrows to read through it. (But it's not text-searchable, unfortunately.) Also, note that BnF used "Léonard, Léonard-Alexis Autié, dit" in the author field (click on the title link just above the image). Yet their Authority control calls him simply "Léonard". A case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing I suppose. --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:03, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The French Wikipédia use the name "Jean-François". I've added the link to the article. And there is a pic. This certainly calls for more research. --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:21, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Di Profio has a footnote on p. 43, which reads: "Ce nom est orthographié « Autier » ou plus souvent « Autié ». Sur le coiffeur de la reine, voir André Denjean, « L'enigmatique état civil de Léonard », Bulletin cercle général Languedoc, n^o 8 (1980), p. 1–2." The French Wikipédia article appears to rely entirely on early 19th-century sources. There was obviously some confusion over his real name. For now, I would favor using the more modern sources, which may be based on more recent information. BTW, the footnote refers to a document ("la registre des affaires de la Conseil") about the granting of his privilege for the Théâtre de Monsieur, in which he is referred to as « Mr. Autier ».--Robert.Allen (talk) 20:43, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kudos for finding a picture. I can't keep up with you today as it's nearly midnight here. It's great when someone picks up the ball and runs with it like that. Léonard Autié → Léonard-Alexis Autié – Name used in the indexes of two good sources: Bashor and Di Profio. Less chance of confusion with his two younger brothers, also Autié's who used the name Léonard. --Relisted.
