Oligopoly tends to Monopoly but not so clearly in Sweezy's time
[edit]In the time Baran and Sweezy wrote, the Anti-Trust laws and the general structure of progressive reforms of the prior 70 years or so were still vital. Their work therefore highlights and is identified with the notion that the winners of capitalist competition essentially agreed to share markets rather trying to monopolize them as in the late 19th century. The general notion of Monopoly Capital though, outside of these authors and this period, refers to actual complete domination of a sector of production by a specific Capital interest such as the Bell System in their time or Google today. This is the more general case and the one consistent with the concept of the general historical development and advancement, i.e. increased socialization, of production 72.228.177.92 (talk) 11:05, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
