"Though the mongrel mob has more members and is more effeciently organised." This statement is in serious need of a source. --Ukdan999 23:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

something

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sieg_Heil says "The New Zealand Mongrel Mob - a criminal gang - mis-spelled the phrase as "Seig Heil", now adopting the incorrectly spelled phrase for their gang slogan." and this article doesn't mention misspelling —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.100.155.194 (talk) 05:23, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kawerau

[edit]

The claim that the Mongrel Mob are especially active in Kawerau is incorrect and not supported by any sources cited in the main article. Indeed the town could be percieved as a Mob stronghold of sorts however, only because the Mongrel Mob are the only gang present in the town. It is not uncommon to find just one active gang in small towns.

Arguss (talk) 07:50, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quite true. There are plenty of Mongrel Mob members in Kawerau, but I doubt that they're significantly more "active" (to a degree worthy of mention in Wikipedia) in Kawerau than in other towns. Essentially, though, the statement is unreferenced and would be difficult to verify. If no-one else objects, feel free to delete it. Liveste (talkedits) 12:43, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having been born in the town I can attest to the Mongrel Mob being quite active in Kawerau, in addition they have also significantly reformed themselves for the better having set up a scaffolding business to employ gang members for construction of the geothermal power plant going in as well as other projects. Though they are still a gang, and involved in criminal activity. A quick google brings up several references on their activities and influence within the town and general area, often being very open with the media eg:

[1] TV 3 News.

[2] the monthly australia.

[3] TVNZ

[4] NZ herald

[5] infonews.co.nz

[6] Yahoo news

and many more references in news to the Kawerau branch all over. 60.234.163.14 (talk) 04:17, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Functions of MM

[edit]

The MM is a loose Knit organization of members who gain much of their income from selling illegal drugs. As well as the places mentioned the gang is active whereever there are many uneducated unemployed Maori. Each gang had turf or territory that it considers their own and they will fight other gangs to defend the territory. The territory is the area in which the gang considers it has the exclusive right to commit crime and especially sell illegal drugs.Initially the main drug was marijuana which goes by many street names. This was sold through tinny house, usually by young prospects hanging around the gate. They were identified by their gang colours-scarfs or jackets.Tinny houses are identified by special innocent looking "signs" such as sneakers in the powerlines or umbrellas open on the front porch.Police watch the gang houses and have established net works of informants who provide information on gang activity.Police regularly tap the phones of gang members and have infiltrated the gangs with police men and women from time to time.About once per 12 months the police carry out a co-ordinated raid across NZ and arrest 50-80 members. When convicted, gang assets such as houses, businesses, bank accounts, cars and motorcycles are claimed by the crown to defray costs.Since 2004 the MM has moved into the lucrative P dealing trade and has formed links with importers of chemicals from China. The MM is now into its third generation of members-usually within the same family who form a close knit gang whanau.Gang members are no longer closely associated with street rape as they were in the 1970.Gang women are subject to strict discipline from gang members which can result in abuse which is seldom reported. The MM operates a front organization houses, sometimes from respectable middle class areas from which they run informal social services for the gang whanau. They also operate from industrial areas where the movement of chemicals is less noticeable .The MM tries to keep some links with hapu and iwi marae to gain plausibility. Most marae will admit them but have strict no drinking drugs or violence rules which are generally followed. The MM respects the traditions and kawa of the marae. In 1992 it was estimated by the inland revenue that drug sales(mainly marijuana) in Northland were worth $700 million NZ-much of this controlled by the MM. A large percentage of NZ's prison inmates are from gangs. In prison the Blackpower and MM are separated to keep the level of violence down.Maori make up about 60% if inmates at any one time (they make up 15% of NZ's population)meaning they are 4 times more likely to commit a crime that lands them in jail.In Nz on average only 50% of all crime is solved. Is the MM a permanent fixture of Maori and NZ culture? How many benefit from the sale of drugs? Can you have a criminal gang that does some good or is this just the Maori mafia?Claudia March 7 2011 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.58.186.243 (talk) 22:49, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of Mongrel Mob

[edit]

Actually Polynesians had a lot to do with the formation of the Mongrel Mob, as well as Europeans or Caucasians. Troublesome Islanders would re-locate here, more than likely illegally, in Auckland, as well as Wellington, back throughout the nineteen seventies, then formed what would eventually become the Mongrel Mob - a gang that outnumbers the New Zealand Police in the thousands of members. Also, a mongrel is a cross-breed dog. The gang thinks this applies to human relations as well that is why you see off-shoots of the Mongrel Mob such as O.D. Crew (a youth wing of the Mongrel Mob), political party Internet-Mana founded by German dotcom tycoon Kim Dotcom, and religious organisation the Destiny Church with their basis and emphasis being interracial relationships or like I had first said, mongrel-ism. I have rectified this I think this article is missing key pieces of information in regard to "Mongrel Mob". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.238.89.3 (talk) 03:38, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to provide reliable sources. Your ideas of what constitutes offshoots of the Mongrel Mob appear rather controversial.-gadfium 03:51, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

At the very least include that mongrel mob is based on a mongrel, a cross-breed dog, or a mixed-raced individual - fact. "Mongrel Mob" is based on race relations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.238.89.3 (talk) 18:59, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect grammar, unwarranted capital letters and crucial subject matter missing

[edit]

When one describes a decade, you use words, not numbers with an s on the end. I also found capital letters where they were not warranted and what I suspect is just some kind of propaganda piece when you know full well Polynesians had a lot to do with the organisation of the gang, not solely Caucasians. I also included that a mongrel is a cross-breed dog - this is highly relevant in best describing the basis of "Mongrel Mob". Finally, without sources, I can not provide what I will call "other associations" such as the Destiny Church and especially Internet-Mana, including other fronts with their main basis being interracial race relations. When I get that information for this article sourced, when ever that will be, I will include it then.

Fine have it your way. I think I can make any warranted changes whether they be grammar or factual information inserts but they will just be reverted by someone who is obviously a Mongrel Mob member with a sense of ownership and entitlement of this article. You even revert my edits without continuing to explain why you do so.

I have decided I will report you to a Wikipedia moderator if you don't change your rule over this article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.238.89.3 (talkcontribs) 7 October 2014

As I wrote earlier, you need sources. See WP:RS. Adding crimes against humanity to the list of criminal activities without a suitable source is not acceptable. See also MOS:DECADE for our normal practice in referring to decades.-gadfium 01:31, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well why won't you include that a mongrel is typically a cross-breed dog? I mean that is fact I shouldn't need to have a source to back that up at least.

Picture?

[edit]

An IP has just deleted the long-standing picture. I can guess at some possible reasons, but we simply don't know. Now, looking that the image - it's from the NZ Herald, but noted as "NZ Police". Presumably it *is* a mugshot, but it's not clear to me that we have permission to use it and it doesn't appear to be available directly from the Police. Something like https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/newpix/2018/03/16/04/4A3CB43C00000578-0-image-a-9_1521172845511.jpg would more representative I suspect, and this is also a past president, so he's a better candidate. But of course we have no rights to this either. Any one individual is probably pretty problematic - so I suggest we look for good "long shots" of members, or simply a sample gang patch. - Snori (talk) 08:28, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
