Monbetsu, Hokkaido → Mombetsu – There is an obvious typo in the city's name, see the official website and the page itself. FromCzech (talk) 18:26, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment not a typo, see Hepburn romanization#Syllabic n. Google NGrams show both forms being used about equally often [1]. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 03:17, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- You are right that it isn't a typo after all, however if the city romanizates itself Mombetsu, it is quite confusing. FromCzech (talk) 05:29, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- The airport [2] and highway signs in the area (e.g. File:Engaru-Setose.IC2.jpg or [3]) use "Monbetsu". I don't think the city has one official position on what the spelling should be. Instead it looks like whoever registered the domain name for the website had one idea, and whoever is in charge of the signage at the public works department had another idea. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 10:23, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, it shoudn't be moved, the page just need to include this clarification to its leading text, and maybe replace all its names to Monbetsu. It is weird when the page name says Monbetsu but the text starts and continues with Mombetsu. FromCzech (talk) 11:59, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- It looks like this article also originally used the spelling Monbetsu until this edit in December 2019. The same editor's edits to Memanbetsu and other Hokkaido-related articles were reverted. In a (not-particularly civil) comment on his talk page he claimed that some municipalities were in the process of updating their signage to use "m". 61.239.39.90 (talk) 17:09, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
