Talk:Monarchy in the Commonwealth Realms
Symmetrical
[edit]The word "symmetrical" is used to describe how the monarch/monarchy/crown is shared as it is exactly how Ontario Superior Court Justice Rouleau described it in a 2003 ruling about the Act of Settlement. As he stated: "As a result of the Statute of Westminster it was recognized that any alterations in the rules of succession would no longer be imposed by Great Britain and, if symmetry among commonwealth countries were to be maintained..."; "Unilateral changes by Canada to the rules of succession, whether imposed by the court or otherwise, would be contrary to the commitment given in the Statute of Westminster, would break symmetry and breach the principle of union under the British Crown..."; "The operation of this commitment to symmetry and union of Canada under the British Crown" [bold mine]. In fact, I'll reference the court ruling in the article. --G2bambino 01:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- He also describes "union under the British Crown" (my bold). Shall we reference this as well? There are quite a few articles for which this might be pretty useful. TharkunColl 07:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
No, because you'd be taking the words out of context. Read the ruling and you'll see that the judge also speaks of the King or Queen of Canada and the Canadian Crown. When he says "British Crown" he means the otherwise nameless shared crown, not the Crown in Right of the United Kingdom. --G2bambino 15:19, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Flag or Royal Standard?
[edit]Seems very odd to the places listed have a flag or a royal standard. At least make them all uniform, one or the other. If only some have the royal standard also, then add it afterwards to the right side. That-Vela-Fella 05:56, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was a little iffy about the mixed flags myself. It seemed that if this page was explicitly about the monarchies rather than the countries then the royal standard was more appropriate over a national flag. But, of course, not all Ralms have a royal standard.
I'll change the national flags to the Queen's generic standard for the time being - though perhaps something else is better.I'll change them all to the national flags for the time being - though perhaps something else is better. --G2bambino 14:36, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
