[edit]I have locked this page for three days to stop the edit warring. Come to this talk page and discuss what you want to put in the article and why. Many of you were ready to be blocked for edit warring but this will give you a chance to discuss and reach agreement as Wikipedia requires. -- MelanieN (talk) 00:49, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
@SharabSalam, You Persian, and Shafi5000: This article is locked so that you and others will stop edit warring and start discussing. This talk page is where you can talk about your differences and decide what should be in the article. Show your evidence - you need to support your edits with published information from Reliable Sources. Be warned that if you resume edit warring after the protection expires, you can be blocked from editing. Edit warring means repeatedly removing other people’s edits and replacing them with what you want to say. It is against Wikipedia’s rules even if you think you are right. -- MelanieN (talk) 15:08, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- I am against adding this duplicate content to the lead:
In July 2019, the United States has imposed sanctions on Zarif and he was identified as an illegitimate spokesperson for Iran.[11][12] Also for the first time, he was nicknamed "Plasterer" by Iranians that is aimed at describing Iran’s Foreign Minister as the one whose career revolved around "plastering" the Khamenei's regime.[13][14] Meanwhile, European Union rejected US sanctions against Iranian Foreign minister.[15]"
- Because this is a biography of living person and such trolling like being called "Plasterer" shouldn't be in the lead or in the article. The other content about him being sanctioned by the US is also IMO not in the lead thing it is written the same in another place in the article.
- I am also against what Youpersian has added which is repeated content from the public image section with the sanction thing.
- Both of these editors are still new and I think they dont know much about wikipedia policy. i made two reverts I would have made one only but Youpersian said something in the edit summary that made me do the second revert..Youpersian said that I am blocked in Arabic wikipedia and because of that he reverted me. I reverted and I said "thats none of your bussines and it has nothing to do with English wikipedia." I also explained to them that I was blocked because of my username which violates a usernames policy in Arabic Wikipedia.--SharabSalam (talk) 15:29, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Javad Zarif's University degrees
[edit]LouisAragon added some relevant content to the lead that was reverted by SharabSalam. Now, a reliable source supports this claim. The source only quotes IRI regime's wording about the USA, this is not "POV".---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 23:26, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Wikaviani, why is it important to add that in the lead section. Also the sources are not actually supporting that statement you added that "ALL" his degree were from the U.S.--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 23:32, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- It's relevant since Javad Zarif who calls the USA "Great Satan" has, in fact studied there and his kids were born there too, this sounds like a very relevant information. I have no problem with giving more details about this ironical information in the body of the article too. Also, while the article does not say "all", it appears in the given list that all his degrees were obained in the USA. However, i would also agree with a sentence like "He obtained his University degrees in the USA" if the word "all" is such a big deal for you.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 23:38, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Wikaviani, I have started a discussion, I dont have time with with this nonsense Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Mohammad_Javad_Zarif.--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 23:45, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Fine, i have no problem with that.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 23:52, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

It is not appropriate to mention his education in the lead to make some sort of ironic point. His education is far from the most important thing about him. This looks like a violation of WP:NPOV to me. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:53, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
- It's possible some info on his education belongs in the lead. But the lead and probably the article would need to be better developed. The lead has basically no real info on his early life. And any info will be in the form of 'he obtained' or similar not 'all his degrees were from the US'. (John Kerry, Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice, Jeremy Hunt, Philip Hammond for example, all include information on their education in the lead, but it seems to be somewhat integrated into the lead and comes across as an attempt to provide biographical info on the person rather than coming across as an attempt to make a point, although the lead quality does vary.) Nil Einne (talk) 16:01, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with Nil Einne, my goal was not to illustrate a point, rather, to give an additional insight about Mohammad Javad Zarif. @Cullen328: What would you think about adding a quote about his education in the lead, as this is detailed in the body of the article ? This fits with WP:LEAD too.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 00:34, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why mention his university degrees in the lead paragraph, Wikaviani, if the point is not to comment on his perceived hypocrisy for getting a good education in the U.S. and then returning home to oppose U.S. policy? That's a perfectly valid point to make in your newsletter or in your blog or on your social media page. But this is a neutral encyclopedia article. Is your "insight" neutral or POV? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:42, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

- @Cullen328: I want to add an insight because it gives some relevant information about this person, nothing less, nothing more. I don't think that anybody label similar information in the leads' of the articles about John Kerry, Jeremy Hunt or Philip Hammond as "POV". Should we refrain from including such informations in the lead of this article specifically just because few people could interpret this as "POV" ? How is this POV if one includes a sentence like "he obtained his degrees in the USA" with a reliable source ?---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 10:22, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
