[edit]I've created a redirect link at Mohamed Sissoko to this article. However, it seems as if Mohamed is his actual name and Momo is a nickname, and so perhaps the article should be at Mohamed, and the redirect at Momo. I don't know for sure what his name is, or what he prefers to be called, so I've just mentioned it on the discussion page here, rather than going down the route of moving it myself. Perhaps if anyone knows for sure, they'd do so. Either that, or I'll wait until I hear more about him at Liverpool, and can make a more informed decision. KeithD 00:39, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
His name is Mohamed Lamine Sissoko. I've moved the article there, and corrected the relevant redirects. - KeithD 08:20, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- He's more commonly known as "Mohamed Sissoko" though, so I've moved it there and fixed the redirects (and fixed the copy-paste move that you did on Momo Sissoko). – ugen64 05:19, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
He is not a Juventus player
[edit]Some fool placed in the info box at the right side that he is now playing for Juventus, the transfer has yet to be completed, with Valencia now making their interest known. Do not know where else to put this message as i do not know how to edit that info box and remove 'a possiblity of the future' and replace it with current facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.230.42.4 (talk) 18:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I have changed all the stuff that says he plays for Juve to say that he plays for Liverpool. As I write this it seems that a move from Liverpool to Juventus is a certainty, so whichever fool decided to change it can do so just as soon as the transfer becomes official. Call me a pedant but the information shoyuld be accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.21.55.19 (talk) 22:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Still nothing on the official website of either club, so he's still playing for Liverpool. Did some reverts, will change them back when it is confirmed. Yes, I'm also a pedant. --Denvesletigeren (talk) 11:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Internantional caps?
[edit]Mali A record as follows (15 caps, 1 goal):
2003 v MAR
2004 v KEN (1gl), BFA, SEN, GUI, NGA, LBR, ZAM, SEN, TOG
2005 v TOG, CGO, SEN
2006 v TUN
2007 v TOG
Mali Olympic (Under 23) record as follows (4 caps, 0 goals):
2004 v MEX, GRE, KOR, ITA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.65.149.173 (talk) 19:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm finding it very difficult to find statistics for Sissoko's international career.
- At the 2004 African Cup of Nations he played all 5 games for Mali and scored 1 goal.
- At the 2004 Olympics he played all 4 games for Mali, but these may not be considered proper international games.
I find it very hard to believe that in the intervening years Sissoko hasn't played almost ever game possible, but many internet sources say that he's only had 5 caps. The BBC say 8. aLii 18:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, well I've searched rsssf.com and found that he played in these games: 19 November 2003 friendly vs. morocco (perhaps his debut then)
2004 african cup of nations: kenya (scored 1), burkino faso, senegal, guinea, nigeria.
2004 friendly vs. tunisia
2004 world cup qualifying (for WC2006 I presume): liberia, zambia, senegal, togo.
2006 world cup qualifying: liberia
so that's at least 12, +4 games at the Olympics. Sadly rsssf doesn't have any detailed records on games played during 2005 and 2006, but I think it's safe to assume that his number of national caps far exceeds 5. aLii 19:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, Momo has got to be their best player so he must have played more than 5.±±±± —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.219.190.241 (talk • contribs) 11:26, 22 September 2006
Sissoko played 7 World Cup 2006 qualifying games : 4 in 2004 and 3 in 2005.

Malian
[edit]You cannot list someone as Malian if they're not. What national team he played for does not determine nationality. My modification incorporates both his French citizenship and his Malian heritage. It is both a compromise and accurate. Accuracy is of utmost importance here. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 21:43, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- I realize this is an old topic, but it needs to be addressed. Yes, he is French, but he also has Malian citizenship - he can't play for Mali otherwise. The current edit reads like this:
- Mohamed Lamine Sissoko (born January 22, 1985 in Mont-Saint-Aignan, France), often referred to as Momo Sissoko, is a French footballer of Malian descent, who currently plays in England for Liverpool F.C. as well as for the Mali national football team.
- The "Malian descent" part seems to imply that he's not a Malian citizen. I propose the following edit:
- Mohamed Lamine Sissoko (born January 22, 1985 in Mont-Saint-Aignan, France), often referred to as Momo Sissoko, is a French-Malian footballer, who currently plays in England for Liverpool F.C. and the Mali national football team.
- It's a bit awkward, but his birthplace is noted in parentheses and the circumstances for picking Mali are noted below, so I think it's fine. Ytny 16:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- You cannot argue that Sissoko is not a Malian footballer because he IS a footballer, and he DOES play for Mali. Therefore to be accurate he is a Malian footballer. Furthermore nationality is not solely based upon place of birth. I was born in England to Welsh parents and I grew up in Wales. I would class myself as Welsh, and most certainly not English. Cliff Richard was born in India but do we class him as Indian? No.
- For the sake of argument I propose that he be listed as a French born Malian footballer rather than a French-Malian footballer, and have changed it accordingly.
