End of modernist cinema
[edit]I think it ended properly in the late 1970s according to multiple sources as it made sense that the next decade marked the beginnings of postmodernist cinema. Espngeek (talk) 22:29, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Modernism and postmodernism don't refer to time periods, they refer to a style and ideology of art. There were modernists in the silent era, etc. I'll wait for any counterarguments but Wong Kar-wai is arguably even more of a modernist than a postmodernist. - According to the Wong Kar-wai page, he was influenced by MTV, which is postmodern. Espngeek (talk) 00:57, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing that he can't also be seen as a postmodernist, but he an auteur who engaged in a sincere tone with his material, and used aesthetics as an expression of his character's feelings and psychology, not usually in a self-referential sort of way. I can look for more sources, but I'm pretty sure he can be described as a modernist. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 05:59, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
