Leiden Model United Nations
Not sure if this is the place to ask, but I was wondering if LEMUN could be added to the list of conferences.
LEIDEN MUN is already a part of the Dutch version of this page.
Founded in 2001 by Mr Prins and Mr Robbers, we have an annual conference with at least 400 participants from different countries, and we are the third largest Dutch MUN (largest are Thimun and Hmun)
For more information see www.lemun.org
I respect the rules you have earlier posted for adding conferences to the list, but thought there could be no harm in asking.
Kind Regards,

- First of all thanks for disclosing your connection: there are many editors spamming on Wikipedia so by coming to Talk and declaring your interest you'll already win the time of other editors to consider the edit. Personally, though, I would be opposed to including your organisation in the table of notable conferences. This is because those which are listed are of primary national, or international, importance. Ranking third in one country (and a small country at that) does not suggest notability to me. See what other editors think though. Also, why not sign up for an account? It would do no harm and you'd be able to contribute to MUN articles and other areas of interest without as much oversight! ColdmachineTalk 08:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Small thing I would like to add. I talked to our SG this morning and he told me that we are, in fact, the second largest Dutch MUN.
(Also thanks for the tip. I'll definitly open an account soon)

- As the matter of fact, LEMUN has various new ideas, such as a crisis committee, in which every year a real crisis (made during the conference itself) is created. LEMUN was the first MUN to host a G8, NAC and ICC too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mijnnaamgaatunietaan (talk • contribs) 22:40, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Add Abreviations of Notable Conferences
I suggest adding a column with the abreviations of the conferences (or maybe just add it in brackets at the end of each name).
Say someone is looking for "NMUN" and is redirected to this article. Now they're searching the site for the term "NMUN" and the only match is in the reference section, and it's not even about NMUN but about HNMUN. I believe adding the abreviation to the list adds a lot to the user friendliness of this article. Deivo (talk) 23:08, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Conference addition
Would there be any opposition to adding Model UN San Antonio to the list? It's currently the largest high school conference west of the Mississippi with a pull of currently about ~1,000 and is expected to expand within a few years by 200-300. Delegates come from all over the United States as well as Mexico (Japan will probably be sending delegates within the next 2-3 years) and the co- chairs spend almost a year training to run it. The main issue with adding it is that it has only been around for 13 years, but it is the largest MUN conference run by a highschool. NAIMUN
Is there a possibility that NAIMUN could be added to this list? It is my belief that NAIMUN (North American Invitational Model United Nations) should be added to the list of important conferences. It is put on annually in Washington, D.C. by Georgetown University. It hosts schools from around the globe, one school even coming from Beijing. The total amount of participants this year was over 3,000. It is also one of the older conferences, having just finished NAIMUN XLVI (46). Also, past guest speakers have included the Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. I find this to be a compelling argument for the addition of the conference and I hope that you do as well.

Moscow International Model United Nations
Dear editors, is there any objection to adding this conference to the list? It's the largest-scale MUN in Russia, based at the Foreign Ministry's MGIMO University, attracts over 500 delegates each year since its inception in 1999, usually runs 8-10 committees in Russian, English and French and Spanish. (More info at http://modelun.ru/?action_skin_change=yes&skin_name=english) Together with the MUN of the Russian Far East at the other side of the country, these two conferences unite much of Russia's MUN population and, imho, should be represented here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pawlovsky (talk • contribs) 11:48, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Conference Addition Discussion
Based on my glancing at the history lately, I notice that most of the edits are people adding and removing conferences from the list of notable conferences. I urge anyone who wishes to add a conference to the list of notable conferences to first put it to a vote here on this talk page. It is pointless to simply have a few people adding and removing content every couple of days, as per WP:EW. These votes should go below. Optimusnauta (talk) 02:54, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
TIMUN
An anonymous editor keeps adding TIMUN, so we might as well discuss its merits here:
- Against. I am personally against including this conference, since it is relatively new and a google news search failed to find any articles about it. Perhaps in 5 or 10 years it will gain more notability and should then be included. Optimusnauta (talk) 03:08, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Against. As above; even if all content is taken as true, the conference still fails to meet notability guidelines. Mystache (talk) 04:13, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
In Favor: Actually, it is much more prestigious and older than RCIMUN which is written here. TIMUN has a history of 17 years and and anyone who has attended can say it has higher debate standards many of the other conferences written here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.234.4.112 (talk) 18:29, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
WMHSMUN
I'm seeking permission to add the William and Mary High School Model UN in Williamsburg, VA to the list. It is nearing a quarter century as this year's conference will be the 23rd (XXIII), and it attracts well over 2000 delegates (with around 2500 expected this year) from across the country and world - including Illinois and India. I will not make claims as to it being the "x largest" as we really don't have a complete list of all MUNs for high schoolers and it changes every year. It takes place on the campus of the College of William and Mary, the second oldest college in America, every November. It is run by the members of the College's International Relations Club, one of the two largest campus organizations. The conference's website can be found here: http://www.wmhsmun.org/ Thank you for your consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.239.157.6 (talk) 01:38, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
I'd like to see you add it anyway and ignore these pretentious editors. I do not think it is their place to mark any conference as "notable". It's clearly a POV thing. It's a miracle there are ANY MUN conferences anymore. 98.224.102.46 (talk) 06:45, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
GOOD FAITH???
I don't understand why PAXMUN continues to be edited out of the notable conferences. It is the only MUN organization based in the LA area. If it's a notability issue, you should be editing out ALL OF THE CONFERENCES that do not meet the requirements. NOT JUST PAXMUN. 98.224.102.46 (talk) 00:58, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- So, there are a few issues at hand here.
- First, I have removed PAXMUN at least once from the page, as it cannot qualify to be listed in the section. PAXMUN is an organization, not a conference
- Moreover none of the constituent conferences of paxmun meet the notability guidelines established for the article. if they did, i would have added them.
- Yes, other non-notable conferences do make the list from time to time. wikipedia, after all, is freely editable. if you see such conferences on the list in the future, i woul ask you, and future editors as well, to remove them.
- Cheers, Mystache (talk) 12:20, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Well will continue to fight against your unreasonable and unfair editing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.224.95.216 (talk) 02:41, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Notable Conferences
I consider that, while there are many MUN's from the US included as notable conferences, MUN's in other countries are badly represented in the list.
I have participated in MUN's internationally and I can affirm that MUN's are huge around the world. For instance, in Colombia, anually, there are at least three conferences which unite almost 1000 participants. Likewise, there are MUN's notable for other reasons (e.g. TESMUN is organized mainly for middle-school students,(aged 11-15), has about 800 delegates and has applied some of its solutions on real life).
In latin-america, the government-sponsored CILA (Conferencia Internacional de las Américas) is a very important event, MUN's being part of the Dominican National Curriculum.
I'm not saying that these conferences have to be necessarily added, I just believe that it is very important to talk about MUN's outside Europe and the US, especially in an article abouyt a UN-related activity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.118.19.234 (talk) 22:02, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- While I dont disagree that most of the conferences on the list are US-based, it is hard [if not impossible] to have a second set of notability guidelines for other countries. i.e.: Being a non-american conference does not necessarily make a conference more notable. Mystache (talk) 15:09, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- However I merged "Model United Nations Development Program" into this article under Notable Conferences, I dont consider it as a notable one (you may check its revision history). I believe there are so many other well-known programs in comparison to that. It might be deleted or even better, substituted with something else. I dont know, what to do in case of deletion, because its a redirected page and merger has been performed after a nomination for deletion (the result was merge to this article) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ikeabana (talk • contribs) 19:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
UNIS-UN is not a MUN conference. It is simply a conference on a different topic every year and does not try to emulate any UN body. I have myself attended the conference, so I can confirm this.
POMPOUS EDITORS!
It is mind boggling that the editors who frequent this Wikipedia page are allowed to invent their rules for notable conferences. I find this to be completely unfair. To people in certain regions, these are the only conferences that are available, therefore they are worth mentioning! Please stop being pretentious. Or at least be fair! Perhaps a less detailed list of "less notable" conferences on this page would appease everyone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.224.95.216 (talk) 06:22, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- This list of conferences on this page is intentionally short. The editors of this page at one point maintained what could be considered an impressive list of conferences, numbering in the hundreds. Said page, however, was deleted by the community at large, as it was not encyclopedic, and wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information. Thus, as to be able to maintain any list at all, the editors of this page established a guideline as to what is notable in terms of conferences. It is under these terms that the information is even relevant to wikipedia itself. Mystache (talk) 22:50, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Alternatively, perhaps the GP could take it upon himself/herself to create such a comprehensive list, host it on an external site, and have this article link to it. Surely that wouldn't violate any Wikipedia policies. Spartacusprime (talk) 13:39, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Notable Conference Consideration: Rutgers University Model United Nations
It has come to my attention that Rutgers University Model United Nations (RUMUN) has been added to the notable conferences list in the past and has been removed. Maybe it's because it hasn't been given proper candidacy on this page first. So I will establish its credentials, which I feel certainly qualify it for addition to the list.
RUMUN is held annually every November at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey, near the campus of Rutgers University. It is facilitated by undergraduate students at Rutgers, as part of a student organization that receives funding from the university. It typically attracts around 1200 high school students from around the country, solidifying itself as a national conference, not just a regional one. The 18th installment of RUMUN was held this past month, simulating seventeen General Assembly/Specialized Agency committees, as well as seven advanced-level committees. Committee sizes average between 50-80 students for GA/Specialized committees, and typically fewer than 15 for advanced committees. The committees are chaired by directors who receive nearly a year of training and preparation prior to the conference, including the production and publication of research briefs for student conference preparation. The conference also maintains a crisis-simulation team, offers a student-written newspaper covering the happenings of committee, and culls guest speakers from various notable institutions. Each year, RUMUN takes a unique thematic approach to conference simulation, allowing for greater emphasis to be placed on civic education and involvement.
Further information on RUMUN can be found at www.idia.net
Considering the numerous credentials I have just listed, and RUMUN's stellar reputation as a fun and stimulating conference for high school students, I hope that the powers that be find Rutgers University Model United Nations to be of the caliber necessary for inclusion into the notable conferences list.
Thank you for your time. --Pl07442 (talk) 20:41, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
UNA/USA - THIMUN
The article sais that UNA/USA is the largest MUN focussed on middle school students. However, THIMUN is the largest MUN conference in the world with 4500 participants and it is focussed on middle school students... Mijnnaamgaatunietaan (talk) 22:44, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Can you verify the reach of THIMUN? Is this THIMUN-run or THIMUN-affiliated conferences? Aroush.una (talk) 19:29, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
-OMUN- I would like help adding OMUN (Ohio Model United Nations)to the list of places that hold MUNs (it was started in 1984 ((I think..)) and it's held in Columbus, Ohio)I hope this meeting can be added. Is an app considered appropriate to list beneath "Resources" section?
Is the Model UN iPhone app something we can add as a resource? I've never posted to WP (long time lurker), and wanted to ask before doing anything of the sort. The app is currently available for iPhone, completely free and the developer states at the top of their page a version will soo ne released for Android 2.2. They state the same thing on the app's facebook page. Full disclosure: I was on the original design team for this app. Farhood.basiri (talk) 02:43, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
This seems fair. Aroush.una (talk) 19:28, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
D.C. not DC?
Hey, Washington D.C. is described here as Washington DC, this gives a redirect link to Washington D.C. Should the dots be added to the article?

Addition of AMUNC to list
Any dissent to the addition of Asia-Pacific MUN Conference to list. smaller than many in the list but representing a large area and number of countries and participants otherwise discluded from the list. Have noticed the list is very US-heavy, with discluded EU conferences and absent Asian conference which would be more deserving than many currently in the list. Cheers Yobsta (talk) 03:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Creation of a seperate 'list of model UN conferences' page?
Why not create a seperate page for a list, so that the list can expand and be seen by those looking for a list, while not introducing too much content to the page which should, in my opinion, be less about some subjective 'list' of MUNs edited by unknown editors, and more about what a MUN actually is... I'm sure people coming to this page for an encycolpedic entry on MUNs are not out for a list of 'someone's favourite MUNs'. thoughts?
Yobsta (talk) 03:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I agree. The chart at the bottom of the list is misplaced, does not fit general Wikipedia formatting, and contains outdated information. Aroush.una (talk) 19:25, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Rules of procedure
Unless someone could point me to it are we not missing an actual list of the rules of procedure? "Rules of procedure. The rules by which a Model UN committee is run. See our Charts of Rules and Motions." Should I write one? Please point me to it if incorrect.Nosebagbear (talk) 19:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Addition of HMUN (Haileybury Model United Nations)
Comments on adding the England conference to the list. I'm unable to tell from the exact list of conferences what methods are being used to decide countries added to the list, but the conferences has a dozen or so conferences and over 700 delegates. It has become the largest 13-18 conference in Britain and is spreading MUN to some additional schools in Kazakhstan as well as some more local starter conferences. While if googled it doesn't come up first because of things like Harvard's MUN, it is certainly well known in Britain.Nosebagbear (talk) 19:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Should this article really include a list of MUN Vocabulary?
I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit new here, but the MUN Vocabulary list feels entirely out of place. A link to a list would be appropriate, but here it just feels frivolous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarneusAgustusCalgar (talk • contribs) 15:23, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Well I would personally say that its helpful to have it available to just scroll down and have it, given that the language is referred to throughout the entry. I wouldn't be against having a pure vocab for MUN entry though. Surely though the same logic could also be use concerning MUN conferences then - its not crucial and there could be a dedicated article for them, in fact i think that has been suggested - so stick as we are or have a separate list(s) for vocab and conferences? Nosebagbear (talk) 15:50, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see any reason to justify such a list. I read the first dozen entries, and none of them is specific vocabulary. Term such as "adjourn" and "committee" are do not need an in-depth explanation. Wikipedia is not a dictionary. If an article about a word exists, link to that. Otherwise, there's always wiktionary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.0.6.193 (talk) 11:47, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
This is just normal vocabulary - not MUN specific. I have therefore deleted it as WP:UNDUE.--Smerus (talk) 12:23, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
"policemen"?
The second paragraph has "The participants role-play as policemen [...]"
I think using that word there is extremely misleading. Maybe "policy maker" would be a better term? --89.245.123.83 (talk) 22:57, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
