Pontus, as it were, did not completely disappear from history however. Its conflict with Antiochus III, the Seleucid king of Syria and Mesopotomia (and subsquent descendent of the general Seluecus who campaigned with Alexander of Macedon) greatly reduced Pontus however to continued to exist after Mithridates' death.

Nobody doubts the kingdom and the dynasty continued to exist: but simply there is not a single source for ANY event between 220 BC (a marriage) and 183 BC (take of Sinope). Acient sources simply don't mention Pontus in these years. Aldux 11:26, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
