Mission Foods was founded by Gil Jaramillo of San Fernando, CA. He was the inventor of the first successful, large scale tortilla production line which became Mission Foods. His business started in a tiny Mexican market, Sierra’s, in San Fernando, CA. Gil had a group of local very capable women who made tortillas, made by hand, & sold in the market. Gil’s wife was the sole delivery/truck driver early when they had built their factory and when retail sales began to grow. Gil also founded several incredible Mexican restaurants, also named Sierra’s, sprinkled throughout the San Fernando valley, part of the greater LA area. There were also Mission Burrito restaurants. All menu items were created by Gil Jaramillo. He was a talented, creative, inventive visionary, an avocado rancher, and an antique car collector who had worked in the movie business earlier in his life. Born in the SF Valley, he seemingly knew everyone in the Valley. Mission Foods was named after the Mission San Fernando, a mainstay in Gil’s life. The Jaramillos sold Mission Foods in the early 1970’s. 166.196.75.92 (talk) 18:21, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
