Missile Range Instrumentation Ship → Tracking ship —WP:COMMONNAME Colds7ream (talk) 18:22, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Should this article be given a more global and more WP:COMMONNAME such as "Tracking Ship" - MRIM is a term that's only used in specialist circles to refer to one country's interpretation of a more general concept. 82.3.242.144 (talk) 15:09, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- I agree entirely - Satellite tracking ship would be my suggestion. The whole article needs to deal more with tracking ships of other navies, such as the Soviet and Chinese, and generally needs expansion. Colds7ream (talk) 18:22, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not so sure about Satellite tracking ship. Although that is a big part of what they do, often their primary function is to receive telemetry from military missile/rocket tests that usually have nothing to do with satellite communication. ChiZeroOne (talk) 18:39, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- Simply 'Tracking ship', then? Colds7ream (talk) 18:42, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- That would probably be more appropriate/generic, though we'd need to make sure that it is a common name for these vessels. ChiZeroOne (talk) 18:49, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
- It's certainly the term used in the Springer-Praxis books. Colds7ream (talk) 18:54, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
