Why do people insist on removing the fact that Miriam McDonald played topless nudity in the Poison Ivy movie? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.88.129.213 (talk) 15:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This fact is trivial. We could list LOTS of factual information about her in various movies: What her first line was, what her last line was, whether she was taller than her castmates, how long her hair was, what clothes she wore (or didn't wear), whether she said anything in French in the movie, etc. None of these are significant details about her. How do we determine this? Simple: substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. We could list countless reliable sources for that fact that she was in this movie: New York Times, Washington Post, IMDb, All Media, etc. As for her single topless scene in one movie, we have a handful of sites dedicated to serving the "needs" of lonely fanboys by listing the nude and nearly nude appearances of young starlets. Take a look at the sources cited for this. Compare them to the criteria at WP:RS. Does the source have " a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" or is it likely run by a guy with a bag of cheese curls in one hand and a DVD remote in the other?
So, Meryl Streep has had a long, quite notable career. This career includes nudity in a number of films, such as The French Lieutenant's Woman (film) and Kramer vs. Kramer. Of the three articles, none of them mention this because it is not a significant aspect of Streep's life or of the movies in question. We know this because independent reliable sources couldn't be bothered to list this trivia.
On rare occasions, nudity in a film is worthy of note. Caligula (film) was more notable for the inclusion of sex and nudity (including Helen Mirren) than for virtually anything else about it. Mirren's nudity in The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover was not a significant aspect of the film. - SummerPhD (talk) 13:33, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This seems like it could fit into a broader discussion of her getting into more mature roles after leaving Degrassi. This would fit alongside her playing Bo's lesbian lover in Lost Girl. Although I can't recall her character doing anything serious in Orphan Black, that's also a darker show. Although I shouldn't sell Degrassi short since it does have a dead kid's ghost come back to haunt the school, so it is also a supernatural horror. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 04:51, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Yoga guru"

[edit]

Generally, the lede section in a biography should be discussing what a person is notable for. McDonald is not notable for yoga (based on three self-produced youtube videos). (In any case, she is clearly not claiming to be a "guru".)

A couple of weekends ago, I installed a new dishwasher. Am I now a plumber? If I balance my checkbook and do my taxes, do I become an accountant? (While I haven't put up videos of either, I've certainly discussed them on Facebook and Twitter.)

Any number of notable people have worked as cashiers, servers, landscapers, etc. before their "fame". We don't list these because they are not relevant. Note, for example, Pete Best "...is a British musician, principally known as the original regular drummer in the Beatles." not "...is a British musician and delivery truck loader...". Comments? - SummerPhD (talk) 22:36, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Exaggeration, I'm removing it. - SummerPhD (talk) 05:46, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Again. Yes, we have a youtube video that shows her teaching yoga. First, this does not in any way suggest that she is considered or wishes to be considered a "guru". Please look it up; the word does not mean what you think it means. Second, one youtube video does not make this a second career or significant aspect of her life. If you believe she is a yoga teacher/instructor/"guru"/whatever, you will need an independent reliable source stating this, not your interpretation of the primary source. Thanks. - SummerPhD (talk) 12:52, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We could of course, directly cite her videos without interpreting them. Like if she said "I will be your yoga teacher" or something. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 04:53, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Billy

[edit]

I noticed in the 2008 AOL interview she mentions the nickname Billy she's had since 5 years old. Is this worth mentioning? 184.145.18.50 (talk) 04:48, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Katherine

[edit]

While checking the state of cites here, I begin to wonder if we have a cite to support this. Is she ever credited using her middle name? I only ever recall seeing her referred to as MM not MKM. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 04:56, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Former

[edit]

Should we call her a former actress? I noticed this and am wondering if it is appropriate. Do we have a source stating she is retired? How long from the last confirmed role does it need to be before we say something like this?

Sure it's about roughly 2 years since Wolves, but consider that she has had 2 year lapses between roles before: 1999 and 2001 initially, then 2010 and 2012. I think we should wait until at least 2017 and knowing no 2016 roles happened before jumping to conclusions like this. For that reason am removing the word. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 05:00, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Somethings not right!

[edit]

Why Miriam McDonald doesn't have a photo on her Wikipedia article while my least favorite Degrassi star Aislinn Paul has? SMH! Spencer H. Karter (talk) 16:06, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shkarter1985, you are at liberty to 1) find a free image that might be available on a site like Flickr. Be sure that it is licensed for our purposes (typically this would be a share-and-share-alike license) otherwise it is not considered free. Upload it, and be sure to properly attribute the copyright holder. If that's beyond your level of interest or skill set, you can 2) add an {{image requested}} template to the top of the talk page as I have done here and someone will eventually come by and add an image. Frustration free. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:52, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Cyphoidbomb for adding an Image Request Template! :) Spencer H. Karter (talk) 17:08, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Something bothers me again and something's not right, how come Aislinn Paul got her actual birtdate on her Wikipedia article while Miriam McDonald does not? SMH! Her birthday is July 26, 1987. Why it says years active 1998-2014?

Spencer H. Karter (talk) 18:30, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

According to WP:DOB, information like birth dates must be well-sourced. Aislinn Paul tweeted her birth date, so it's included. McDonald's full birth date isn't included because there's no source for it in the article. If you know of one that satisfies WP:V and WP:RS, please provide it. clpo13(talk) 18:42, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are those Wikipedians Pro-Aislinn Paul fans? I disliked Aislinn Paul with a passion, Miriam McDonald was much better. It's a shame those Wikipedians remove Miriam McDonald's actual birthdate from her Wikipedia article months ago, I just felt that Aislinn Paul is "The It Girl" and has good luck while Miriam McDonald has bad luck when it comes to acting. I like Miriam McDonald better than Aislinn Paul and of course, I'm SMH at those Wikipedian/s for removing Miriam's date of birth from her Wikipedia. Her fans doesn't deserve this! SMH again! I've been a Wikipedian since late 2004 and months ago I had a disagreement with other rival Wikipedians with this date of birth issue and it upset me so badly. That's how I feel. Fans of Miriam deserves better than this. Sorry for the criticism. I was upset when the Wikipedians removed Miriam's real date of birth we all know of July 26, 1987. I've been a Degrassi fan since 2005, and truthfully I felt lost when Miriam McDonald left the previous incarnation of Degrassi in 2010 after her character's controversial send-off. On the positive side, I'm glad she return as guest in upcoming Degrassi: Next Class episode since it will debut on Netflix here in the states on July 22nd (four days before Miriam McDonald turns 29) and just a fellow YouTuber named MRSUPERBOY223 mostly says on his videos "Control your dollar, know your history". Wikipedians haven't heard this saying before they inexplicably removed Miriam's real date of birth from her Wikipedia article "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". That's all I can say! Spencer H. Karter (talk) 18:56, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We cannot include information that isn't supported by a reliable source or, in the case of personal info, published by the person themselves (e.g., on a verified Twitter account). This is not an issue of "fans" adding or removing anything. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 19:06, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I wish Twitter verified Miriam McDonald instead of Aislinn Paul, I felt they throw Miriam McDonald's fans under the bus. I'm very disappointed at the way Wikipedia is now and Wikipeidans too, I don't want to do edit wars, and I wish Aislinn Paul wasn't verified on Twitter. SMH and disappointed! Spencer H. Karter (talk) 19:18, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Years Active

[edit]

Miriam McDonald is still one of my favorite Degrassi Legends, but why her years active says 1998-2014 while Aislinn Paul (the other Degrassi star who is not one of my favorites) got Years Active: 2000s-present? SMH! Something's not right again!

I was jealous when I seen the Years Active of Wikipedia articles of Miriam McDonald and Aislinn Paul while Aislinn is still acting, while Miriam is not active. SMH!

Spencer H. Karter (talk) 18:40, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SOFIXIT. clpo13(talk) 18:45, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Clpo13, Years Active is not right. I'm upset that my least favorite Aislinn Paul got years active: 2000-present while Miriam McDonald has years active: 1998-2014. She's going to make a guest appearance on Degrassi Next Class this year in 2016. Heard the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it? It should be back to 1998-present. SMH!

I like Miriam McDonald much better, I don't like Aislinn Paul with a passion, I felt that Aislinn sort-of The It Girl of Degrassi after Miriam's 2010 departure. Yes, I'm pro-Miriam McDonald fan. Spencer H. Karter (talk) 03:22, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

She was born August 12, 1987? Wikipedians aren't very accurate!

[edit]

Miriam McDonald wasn't born on August 12, 1987, she was born on July 26, 1987. Look up her credits on the Internet Movie Database. Wikipedians aren't very accurate. SMH!

Please do you research fellow Wikipedians next time. Accuracy is supposed to be truthful, not lies. Spencer H. Karter (talk) 18:26, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shkarter1985, IMDb is a user-contributed source and it is not permissible to use it as a reference per WP:RS, WP:RS/IMDB, or WP:TVFAQ. User-contributed sources are not permissible because any random internet user can add and change content. Other examples of unusable user-contributed sources are blogs, unverified Twitter accounts, discussion forums, news article comments, Wikia, TVTropes, TV.com, and even Wikipedia itself. You read that right, Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference in articles at Wikipedia for the reason I have explained: it is a user-contributed source. Please familiarize yourself with our community sourcing guidelines to spare yourself the potential embarrassment of posting a poorly-informed public criticism of Wikipedia's volunteers. If you'd like to go and find a reliable source that meets our sourcing criteria, please feel free to bring it back here where we can look at it together. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:58, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The IMDB has been around way before before Wikipedia started to exist in 2001. I don't like it when Wikipedians are lacking accuracy and of course back in July 26, 2012 I wished Miriam McDonald a happy birthday on that day on her Twitter page when she turned 25 years old back in 2012, and she told me thanks. Her Twitter page is https://twitter.com/OfficialMiriamM and look for the date July 26, 2012 and you'll see the proof, PROOF is the keyword Cyphoidbomb. Wikipedians are supposed to tell the truth and accuracy and not fabricated stuff. I've complained the other day on Wikipedia's Facebook page about those recent changes they made, and I said in my reply it's time to MAKE WIKIPEDIA GREAT AGAIN. Is like someone secretly having a time-machine and changing history. Fact, Time-Travel only exist in fiction. You heard the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" do re-write history, that's what they did. Just YouTuber MRSUPERBOY223 always says on some of his videos "Control Your Dollar, Know Your History!" and Wikipedians haven't done enough research on their part of the editing. I've been using Wikipedia since late 2004 before those controversial changes took place.

As I say earlier in this reply, it's time to MAKE WIKIPEDIA GREAT AGAIN! BTW, search on BING and you see Miriam McDonald's real birthdate is actually July 26, 1987.

IMDB is not permissible source that Wikipedia uses? SMH!

[1] Look at posts from July 26, 2016 and see the proof. I'm not lying, I'm telling the truth. As a Wikipedian, I tell the truth. Spencer H. Karter (talk) 02:12, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh geez, where to begin... Firstly, July 26, 2016 hasn't happened yet. Secondly, I'm not digging through a score of Tweets to find your proof. If it's important to you, then you find it. Anyway, what it sounds like you are making is an argument that because she didn't say "it's not my birthday" that that must mean it is her birthday. That's logically fallacious. The key piece of information that you need to absorb, is that IMDb is user-contributed, and thus unsuitable. Your Bing suggestion is ludicrous. Where do you think Bing gets that information from? Try: the same sites that are problematic--Wikipedia, IMDb, etc. User-generated sites. Familiarize yourself with WP:RS, which reads: Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Bing is not a reliable third-party published source, and it has no reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. It's a search engine, not a newspaper. There is no concept of journalistic integrity built into the Bing search algorithm. Find a newspaper, find a magazine, find an article at CNN.com or Variety.com or some other mainstream news/trade website. These are reliable published sources with established reputations for fact-checking and accuracy. If you can't find the information in these resources, then the information will have to be left out. Don't worry though, Wikipedia has no deadline. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:34, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I disagree with you Cyphoidbomb, CNN is biased and not reliable, IMDB is reliable! I'm been a Wikipedian since late 2004! Spencer H. Karter (talk) 06:06, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You've got it the wrong way around. CNN is reliable, IMDB is not. Take a look at WP:UGC for reasons why. clpo13(talk) 17:35, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Clpo13, CNN tells opinionated biased news on TV instead of facts, TV journalists supposed to tell the truth and facts, not biased nonsense. IMDB is facts! Wikipedia is anti-Internet Movie Database? SMH! I had to complain to another Imperious Wikipedian named Drmiles after that Wikipedian got on to me after my edits. I've first used Wikipedia in late 2004 when it was much better and enjoyable before the controversial strict changes took affect. Wikipedia ain't the same anymore! I did express my displeasure on their Facebook Page and my YouTube video, search my name Spencer Karter and watch the video to express my true feelings and I did complain to Wikipedia about those Wikipedians, but they won't help and I did SMH on that! As I say, I've been editing Wikipedia articles since 2004, I know my history and I do have a memory about it. Well, have a nice day! Spencer H. Karter (talk) 17:56, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cyphoidbomb, well I can't take this anymore. Since Wikipedia won't let me delete my account, I'm announcing my Retirement effective today! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shkarter1985
