Entire plot harvested from Niven?

It's a bundle of short stories for a magazine (=quick editorial turnover) and they started appearing two years after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legacy_of_Heorot by Niven/Pournelle/Barnes.

Every essential plotpoint appears taken from that book: Colonizing far-off planet? Check. Essential information lost during the long transit? Check. Conflict with local dangerous creature? Check. Eradicating said danger unmasking a greater peril (local danger was only predator of juveniles of the greater peril)? Check. [Humans are badly beaten but prevail in the end?
