Where should this article redirect?

[edit]

I noticed that HongQiGong has redirected this article to Zhonghua Minzu. Can we discuss that here, for future reference? Matt 18:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made the redirect because I think readers are most likely looking for what is at Zhonghua Minzu when they are searching for "Minzu". Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 22:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for answering my query. I wonder whether Zhonghua minzu is the most helpful article for the redirection. The meaning of minzu is explained at Ethnic minorities in China. Wouldn't ethnic minorities be the most common context in which English speakers would encounter the word? If I have disentangled the article history correctly, the minzu article has pointed at this information (under various article names) for most of its life. Matt 23:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to agree with Matt. Why is Zhonghua minzu a better redirect than Ethnic minorities in China? The meaning of minzu is 'ethnic group' or 'nationality'; the Zhonghua minzu is just one of the possible referents of the term. There is actually a discussion of the word minzu at the article on Ethnic minorities that is more helpful than the article on Zhonghua minzu. Bathrobe 00:42, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Having waited a while, and had a little support for the argument, I've made the change. Matt's talk 04:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
