Kerouac
[edit]What about Jack Kerouac? Kerouac was a Bird follower. He wrote several poems about jazz at Minton's. One is on his spoken word album.
- It is usual to sign and date contributions with four tildes (~) on Wikipedia.
- Kerouac was a friend of Jerry Newman, responsible for recording those after hours sessions, in the early 1940s when they were both students at Columbia. In any case Parker did not actually perform that much at Minton's, despite the venues importance in the emergence of bebop. Philip Cross 16:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- How do you define "that much"? Viriditas (talk) 04:16, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I am trying to add the following information to the section sitting in a Minton's. While there is profanity I think it is outweighed by the educational value. Burnedfaceless (talk) 20:41, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Trumpet player Miles Davis said in his autobiography
"If you got up on the bandstand at Minton's and couldn't play, you were not only going to get embarrassed by people ignoring you or booing you, you might get your ass kicked. One night this guy who couldn't play worth shit got up to try and do his thing-bullshit- and style himself off to get some bitches, playing anything. A regular street guy who just loved to listen to all the music was in the audience when this dumb motherfucker got up on the stage to play, so the man just got up quietly from his table and snatched this no-playing cat off the stage, dragged him outside and into the alcove between the Cecil Hotel and Minton's, and just kicked this motherfucker's ass. I mean real good. Then he told the dude not to never take his ass up on the bandstand at Minton's again until he could play some-thing worth listening to. That was Minton's. You had to put up or shut up, there was no in between." <ref> Davis, Miles; Trope, Quincy (189). Book of Miles Davis Autobiography.:
