The evidence is partly contradictory, but Minnie Smythe may have been born in 1874 rather than 1872. The 1939 England and Wales Register gives her birth date as 24 May 1874. This is supported by Huish (1904) who states she was 26 years old when she was made an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1901, and by the England & Wales, Death Index: 1984-2005, which states she was 81 years old when she died in 1955. However, the England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915, gives her birth registration as occurring in 1873. I went back and forth on whether to change her birth year, but on balance thought it was best not to change it, supported by Mallalieu (2002) and online sources such as auction houses and image collections, and per WP:OR.
