May as well review for DYK as well as GAN, so here goes....Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:03, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Am surprised by the nature of the references. All maps and legislation? Surely someone has written about material which would colour this article....
How about this cool-sounding landmark which looks over the highway?
Anything else in local newspapers or libraries about black spots, poor or well-maintained bits...etc. ?
I am sure there has been some discussion on the use of maps as sources...right? Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:20, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maps are perfectly acceptable sources for use in an article of this type. It's been discussed several times, and the conclusion has always been the same. In fact, most US highway Featured Articles use them. There are over 10,000 individual state highways in the US; not all of them make the papers or guide books. Thanks for the grain elevator link, a sentence has been added. (Anything more would be WP:UNDUE weight of course. Imzadi 1979  23:14, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
When used properly, maps are acceptable as sources. See Wikipedia:Using maps and similar sources in wikipedia articles. --Rschen7754 00:18, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cool, thanks guys. (I figured there'd been some discussion somewhere, just didn't know where to start looking) Yes all I wanted was one sentence, just something to give the article a bit more colour - have there been any big/notable traffic accidents on it? Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:48, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, there haven't. Imzadi 1979  01:50, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1. Well written?:

Prose quality: - just checking this now. I've read this over a few times now, but road articles ain't my forte. Still, I'm not seeing any deal-breakers prose-wise and it's an easy comfortable read, which is a good thing. Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:02, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Manual of Style compliance:
The section that is now an expressway in the Twin Cities - "through the twin citiesTwin Cities? sounds odd with "in" here.Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:57, 16 April 2012 (UTC) sorry the emphasis was the "through" not the "in" Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:13, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2. Factually accurate and verifiable?:

References to sources: - just doing some spotchecking this now. what I checked was faithful...not sure how one can copyvio or paraphrase a map :P Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:02, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Citations to reliable sources, where required:
No original research:

3. Broad in coverage?:

Major aspects:
Focused:

4. Reflects a neutral point of view?:

Fair representation without bias:

5. Reasonably stable?

No edit wars, etc. (Vandalism does not count against GA):

6. Illustrated by images, when possible and appropriate?:

Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:

Overall:

Pass or Fail: - just checking the prose, quibbles pending.....Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Twin Cities is the name for the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area, so it's a proper noun. Imzadi 1979  07:07, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"through" doesn't sound right either, because that word implies that the road passes from one side of the Twin Cities to the other when it does not; it ends in the middle of the region. Imzadi 1979  15:53, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Aah ok, good point. Alright, maybe "within" but "in" also suffices I think. Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:56, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Pass or Fail: - can't find much to quibble about other than the fact that it is a bit..er..bare. I figure something notable must have happened somewhere or there must have been some controversy etc. Do the routes which became part of the highway in 1933 have some historical significance? (old wagon trails...or something?) Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:02, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
