mini e longest range
[edit]Hello, Please refrain from deleting my fact about MINI E #466 going 142.3 miles on a single charge. This was my car with me driving and im very proud of what i achieved. There was well over a dozen people who witnessed this fact. I even recieved a plaque with this statistic on it and congratulating me on my first place finish. Please feel free to email Joel Anstrom at Penn State at jra2@psu.edu to confirm this fact. You can also email me at hellraiser79@msn.com. Thank you, Ken Barbour Jr. —Preceding unsigned comment added by[ [Special:Contributions/68.46.59.57|68.46.59.57]] (talk) 07:03, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- There are several thing wrong with your edit:
- You are including this info in the middle of a section that is talking about BMW official demonstration project. Even though you obviously are part of the trial, your alleged record was part of a special competition, which means driving conditions were not normal day-to-day (as BMW is reporting). If I am wrong, you are obliged to produce reliable sources (see WP:RS) to demonstrate that the source already in the article is wrong (which has a RS) and that you achieved this record under normal driving conditions.
- You are claiming this fact is documented but you are not producing any RS, so by Wiki policy it can be speedily removed.
- Even worst, the content refers to your achievement, which without RS becomes blatant piece original research (see WP:OR). The burden of proof is yours not mine nor of any wiki editor (your cue to e-mail is no good, simply produce reliable sources).
- Finally, the way you edited the content you make it look like trivia (see WP:Trivia).
In a spirit of being positive and constructive I will edit that content in a separate section trying to avoid it looks like trivia, and tag with needing reliable sources, but if you do not provide appropriate sources, me or any editor could delete it at any time.--Mariordo (talk) 17:00, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- PS: I google, and all I can find is this and this, but nothing about the claimed record, so please produce reliable sources soon to support this content (no blogs please) or I would delete the new section in a couple of days.-Mariordo (talk) 17:17, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
I am sorry that i am not as computer literate as you are. I build electric cars not websites. I have noticed that neither Penn State nor the EEVC has posted this years results on their websites. I have requested that this info be posted. I have been reassuired that this info will be posted shortly. In this interim, I request that you quit talking to me as though my info is not true. I am probably not even the absolute record holder as far as MINI E range is concerned. Many other MINI E pioneers have similar stories and range records. We posted them all on our MINI E forum on facebook. My record was achieved in a competition only because that was the only time i actually cared about my longest range results. On a daily basis, i achieved over 130 mile of range the whole year i had the car. The Tour de Thor on which I did two plus laps was a 70 plus mile loop throughout the mountain ranges surroundin Penn Stat University. It consisted of backroads with 50 mph speed limits and highway with 65 mph limits. It was done morning to afternoon on a sunday with regular traffic. This was not a closed course. The info to support my claim will be available shortly, please dont crucify me if i am unable to add the citation correctly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.46.59.57 (talk) 05:51, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
- I am sorry too, this is not personal and in good faith indeed I created the section, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and there are policies to be followed. This type of material must have a reliable source and since you are personally involved this is considered OR as explained above.-Mariordo (talk) 05:59, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for allowing my comment to stand until i can produce the source. I assure you it will be on the net within a few days. I did not want to get into a fight with anyone over this info. I am just so tired of all the negativity regarding EVs that i read, My car had 25k miles on it at the end of my one year lease and was the only car i drove. I wish people that dont own electric cars would stop talking about electric cars. I dont talk about things i have never driven. Thanks again, Ken Barbour Jr. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.46.59.57 (talk) 07:10, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I found the original report on this record in the Mini E discussion list on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/topic.php?uid=62748014223&topic=18329 I suspect Facebook does not suffice as a "reliable source" per the Wikipedia definition. In my own experience as a trial participant, I documented a 120 mile trip under adverse conditions in my blog: http://minie458.blogspot.com/2009/12/120-miles-and-freezing-at-start.html But again the "reliable source" guidelines exclude blogs. At this point in a developing product class, there should be some consideration given for anecdotal reports since the size of the fleet is too small to facilitate rigorous studies. BMW's reports were compiled from questionnaires given to us trial participants, which are not much more reliable than the blog postings and discussion board posting of the self same group of trial participants. Ken, I have seen other blog postings that exceeded your record, I will try to find the links and compile a list of references to them. Perhaps we can make more general entry that will stand with several (less than reliable) sources supporting one claim about the ability to exceed the normal range reliably. There is a great deal of discussion in the Nissan Leaf forums to the same effect already. -Jim McLaughlin Mclaugh6 (talk) 03:08, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Small family car?
[edit]Doesn't this have 2 seats? Not a family car. Even the 4-seat engine-powered Mini can only carry small children in the back --81.157.6.77 (talk) 19:42, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
