Milo Yiannopolous

[edit]

Milo Yiannopolous is referred to as just "Milo" by himself, publishers, and parts of the media. Over the years several people have tried to add this him to to this Article and all have been reverted. As such, I was wondering if it would be possible to get some consensus on whether or not Milo Yiannopolous should be mentioned on this article. 172.78.65.231 (talk) 15:57, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For one thing, it's only one more click to go into Milo (name), so it's not like it's hard to find him. But anyway, I'd rather we avoid having the discussion about this on the DAB page. Instead, I'd suggest adding a statement to Milo Yiannopoulos that he's known by the mononym "Milo" and let the editors watching that page, who theoretically know more about the subject, decide if it's accurate and should stay. Then the DAB page can just reflect what's on there (as it currently does by not including him). -- Fyrael (talk) 16:46, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To suggest that one querying for "Milo" doesn't anticipate to stumple upon Milo Yiannopoulos' page is absurd. Any cursory search on google (trends) shows this to be true. Unless wikipedia is truly questioning the applicability of a GOOGLE search to disambiguation (dare you look, great wikipedia purveyors of facts?), let's take a look at the pageviews of the prior 30 days from present of the "Milo" landing page, shall we? The page views are: 245, 26,822, 35, 1,155, 135, 80, 1,061, 24, 214, 1,451, 89, 5,480, 1,657, 7,540, 73, 8, 12, 186, 711, 65, 82 ,32, 47, 13, 176, 7, 9, 18, 13, 61.
Milo Yiannopoulos, notably not on this disambiguation page, has had 83,923 views in the prior 30 days from present, a number nearly triple that of wikipedia's annointed "Milo" articles. The article is appropriate to be linked upon landing of "Milo" per Wikipedia:Disambiguation Darkestshining (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 11:50, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For one thing, you'll get a lot more accomplished on Wikipedia and have a nicer time doing so if you just drop the attitude. Nobody here was acting elitist or whatever else you're trying to imply. We're just trying to have an encyclopedia that's easy to use and apply policy consistently. If you look at my edit history and Bkonrad's, the bulk of what we do is maintain disambiguation pages. I'd never heard of Yiannopolous prior to this discussion and I have no opinion on them, so we're not biased against them if that's what you're imagining.
Getting into the actual topic here, it doesn't seem like you've correctly understood my argument or the one I was responding to. Nowhere did I say that this person was non-notable. The page views are quite irrelevant. What decides whether they should go on the DAB page or not is just a matter of whether they're known simply as "Milo", per WP:PARTIAL. If he is known by that mononym, then it should indicate that on his page (again, as I said above). Since he seems to own milo.net and at least a few of the sources refer to him by Milo it doesn't seem absurd to include that, so I've added it to the page myself. I'd like to wait at least a day to see it doesn't get reverted, and then I'd support him being included here. -- Fyrael (talk) 15:53, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't think this is relevant. The guy's disappeared off the face of the Earth. That "Google Trends" link shows no particular interest in the word for years. So no, I oppose aggrandizing the guy by giving him a "mononym." NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 16:13, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Milo Yiannopolous known as just "Milo

[edit]

Milo Yiannopoulos's Wikipedia page currently identifies, with a citation, that he is also known as simply "Milo". Previously, there was a quasi-Edit War over whether or not he belonged on this disambiguation page. The fact that his Wikipedia page identifies him with the mononym seemed controlling. Indeed, Milo Yiannopoulos's name was listed on this page for the last nine months. Per WP:NAMELIST, "To prevent disambiguation pages from getting too long, articles on people should be listed at the disambiguation page for their first or last name only if they are reasonably well known by it. . . . Consensus among editors determines if an article should be listed on the disambiguation page." Through a very fruitful and productive discussion on Milo Yiannopoulos's talkpage, that community came to the consensus that Milo Yiannopoulos's recognition by the name "Milo" was sufficient for the mononym to be included in his page. This consensus was also reached on this page as well, as Milo Yiannopoulos was listed here for approximately nine months until it was removed late last month. As such, I believe that Milo Yiannopoulos should be included on this page. CounselForMuffinMan (talk) 03:37, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the fact that it's specifically mentioned on his page leaves rather little room for debate here, especially as you pointed out that it went through much discussion there, not some sneaky edit that went unnoticed. -- Fyrael (talk) 15:28, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
