[edit]Certainly an interesting character of folk-lorical status... He was a giant of a man, not only in terms of weight (1000+ lbs) but also in the vastness of his stature (reputedly 7 ft 6)!!!
Thats one big guy, legends also abound that Mills could be heard for a distance of 6 miles in Hog calling season!.... A combination of Gigantism and morbid obesity...god I wish we had some photos of the guy.... :) Andre the Giant would be intimidated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.99.204.30 (talk • contribs) 05:14, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit]There's no doubt a Mills Darden existed, but it seems like all the "evidence" for his size is incredibly flimsy. Even though it is listen in Guinness, everything seems to indicate that he was estimated and not actually measured. In all probability he was a huge man, but very big people can get away with exaggerating their heights and weights substantially. And seriously, what is up with that "reconstruction" of him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.111.185.184 (talk) 04:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]He did exist... In fact I my grandmother was telling me a story about how her great uncle was the fattest man alive. I didnt believe her but apperently its true. Ill get back once I research. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.178.175.218 (talk) 03:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]The comparison figure is rather childish and detracts from the integrity of the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.78.64.101 (talk) 05:15, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Totally agree that the chart should be taken down. It's not that it is childish, it's that it really does absolutely nothing to convey how big this guy was. In fact, the chart downplays the size of the man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.39.63.38 (talk) 02:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Has any additional research been done?
[edit]Has any additional research been done on this man? If his burial site is known then the possibility exists of exhuming him -- if legal persmission can be obtained. If his remains are that of a man standing close to 7-feet 6-inches that part of the story would be varified. Calculating his weight might also be possible.
Obviously this could only be done if legal permission were obtained although we explore the bodies of ancient Egyptians and others to learn more about them as we please. (71.22.47.232 (talk) 05:22, 6 July 2010 (UTC))
"No known photo remains of him"
[edit]How is it possible for the article to say "No known photo remains of him", but there is a photo of him in the article? Rodrigo Amarante Colpo (talk) 22:02, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Because anyone can post anything to an article? I can put a image of a person in the Plato article, would you say the same thing? pepp5 (talk) 08:23, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Stop posting unverified photos of this person
[edit]The Guinness Book of World Records from the 1970s showed words to the effect of "no known photograph exists" of this person, for many issues of that book. He died in 1857 in a rural part of the country, it's possible, but doubtful that people were taking many photographs in that area and before that year, and Guinness is very trustworthy. pepp5 (talk) 17:18, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- The proper venue for assessing validity of the image would be at the file entry on Commons. If you believe it to be a hoax please initiate a deletion discussion there.--☾Loriendrew☽ ☏(ring-ring) 18:59, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
