[edit]Section on Islamic-NAZI cooperation has serious NPOV issues. Sources provided are articles from non-neutral sources that rely on hearsay. No solid reference is provided, and the whole wording needs to be rewritten from the bottom up if it is to be NPOV. Deleted.
Redundancy
[edit]Very little of this article—basically only the fleet section—has to do with Egypt as a country. It is mainly about the fighting in Egypt and is mostly redundant to the article about the Western Desert Campaign. —Srnec (talk) 13:43, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Srnec: I have moved the article's title to Egypt during World War II. I believe this reflects your concerns (which I sympathize with). Fitzcarmalan (talk) 12:01, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Would Egypt in World War II not be a more appropriate title, see the general trend on Template:WWII history by nation. —Brigade Piron (talk) 22:23, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Role of Bletchley Park
[edit]Intelligence from Bletchly Park is credited with the sinking of a lot of Axis shipping destined for Rommell. Should a note be made of this here ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.68.68.15 (talk) 23:13, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Terrible article, disgraceful
[edit]What a shitty article, I came here trying to find out some facts and nothing is sourced and its terribly written. No wonder why people don't take Wikipedia seriously. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.66.126.143 (talk) 04:02, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- Since your comment, sourced information has been added by others and I have tidied the article by editing out some repetitions and reducing the repetitious use of wikilinks. What might be welcome would be mention of Axis air raids, Egyptian losses, when it did declare war on Germany (I understand from memory it was early 1945) and what influence it had on Egypt's subsequent political history.Cloptonson (talk) 10:47, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
What was 'the eternal curse of the desert war'?
[edit]"the First Battle of El Alamein was lost by Rommel because he was suffering from the eternal curse of the desert war, and long supply lines."
Could someone explain the enigmatic figure of speech about 'the eternal curse' - was it logistical, weather or health related? It seems like a direct quotation from another writer.Cloptonson (talk) 10:22, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- There should be no "and", the curse is "long supply lines." Telecine Guy (talk) 14:58, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
My plan for the article
[edit]I want it set up like this:
Poltiics:
Summary of politics before World War Two
(Then I break it up by prime ministers with The Abdeen Palace Inciddent in between)
Military:
Talk about Aziz Al-masri and Sadat's attempt at trying to collaborate with the Nazis
Talk about what the military was up to during the war (shooting down planes over Alexandria)
Sudan's help during the liberation of Ethiopia
Public Sentiment (use Israel Gershoni's work):
Liberals
Muslim Brotherhood
Young Egypt
Socialists
