1900 Boxer Rebellion
[edit]This image may be worth adding; but without text, the photo seemed oddly out of place; and so I'm "parking" it here until the Boxer sub-section is more fully developed. Maybe the caption will need to be modified when or if it is restored to the main page? --Tenmei (talk) 20:33, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Article to be renamed? merged?
[edit]The Canadian counterpart to these medals are called "Campaign medals" at the Governor General of Canada's web page --see here. I wonder if perhaps "Campaign medals" would be a better English title for this article about Japanese jugun kisho?
Wikipedia and the Canadian honors system identify distinctions amongst (1) Orders, (2) Decorations and (3) Medals. The Japanese have a somewhat simpler honors system consisting of only Orders and Medals' and in this context, and formerly-authorized jugun kisho are merely historical artifacts from an Imperial system which has now been superseded.
Arguably, it might be better if the substance of this article were appended to the article about non-military "Medals of Honour" which are recognized by the Japanese Cabinet Office website -- Decorations and Medals? The Jugun kisho is unmentioned in current schema of honors.
Alternately, it might be better if the substance of this article were appended to the article about the now-abolished "Order of the Golden Kite" which recognized special achievements in time of war? --Tenmei (talk) 14:12, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Status: notability?
[edit]Does it make sense to limit new additions to this list?
Is it appropriate at this stage of the article's development to initiate a standard limiting names on its largely barren select lists to
- (a) those who already have Wikipedia articles
- and
- (b) those who are notable for something other than being honored with this Imperial decoration -- see, e.g., US Navy Cross edit history?
This thread is a first step in seeking consensus opinion.
In a context informed by practices which seem to have worked out well at Navy Cross, all new additions who aren't already featured in an article are re-redirected to this talk page section with the following edit history explanation:
- people listed here must have articles on Wikipedia and be notable for something other than receiving this Japanese honor -- see "Status: Notability" on talk page
In due course, perhaps all such names can be restored to the article. --Tenmei (talk) 21:10, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
