Rooney Rule

[edit]

Mike Tomlin??????????

There seems to be no linkage applied between the Rooney Rule and Tomlin's hiring other than an assumption that he was hired for that purpose. I think it is shoddy writing or an non-NPOV. Killing that line for now. -User:Thames 29 January, 2007

I agree it's somewhat debateable but do you really think someone with only 1 year experience as a coordinator would have even been interviewed for a head coaching position if they didn't have to interview him? The rule certainly didn't hurt him. I think this linkage deserves some merit, especially considering the person who lobbied for the rule and whom the rule is named after hired Tomlin. I mean if we're gonna add that he's the 10th black coach in NFL history (which I think we all can agree is significant enough to add in there) why can't we add that the Rooney Rule helped get him the interview and was named after the person who hired him? -User:Fromos 29 January, 2007
I oppose this line's inclusion. The Rooney Rule did not get Tomlin his interview. The Steelers had already interviewed Ron Rivera, a latino man who fulfilled the Rule's requirements. If he had been the only minority candidate interviewed, I could see it, but it doesn't hold water in this circumstance. I'm removing the reference. Slurms MacKenzie 17:14, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bending over backwards to NOT mention the Rooney Rule would be NPOV if there are sources to back up the connection between Tomlin's hiring and the rule. I have found multiple references and have incorporated text with a reference to back it up. If that's not enough, it appears there are several other references including a quote from Art Shell indicating that Tomlin wouldn't have this opportunity without the rule. I strongly support this referenced text staying within the article in some form. Erechtheus 04:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, can we get a picture of Tomlin in here? I'd do it, but I'm no good at pictures. --Wjmoore17 17:48, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does wikimedia have anything from him? 97.90.3.122 (talk) 19:33, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth

[edit]

We have Hampton and Newport News in the article. Which is correct? --Rajah 08:07, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Victoria's Secret

[edit]

It seems Mr. Tomlin has been named the NFL's "sexiest" coach by Victoria's Secret (link). I won't add the information, because it's fluff, but if someone else wants to, knock yourself out. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:53, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His NYT interview

[edit]

Tomlin told the NY Times that he reluctantly benched Holmes, knowing how valuable the player was.

Shawty Lo

[edit]

Why did someone add the Shawty Lo line next to the resemblance to Omar Epps? The Epps - Tomlin resemblance is well known and referenced, the Shawty Lo, not so much. Removing unless we have some sort of reason to leave it. --66.49.23.40 (talk) 00:43, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete Background

Coach Tomlin attended the prestige College of William and Mary. Can we disclose what was the Major he earned his bachelor's degree in? 76.106.168.45 (talk) 02:41, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is he the winningest young coach in the NFL history? Manofmyth (talk) 19:35, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sideline incident

[edit]

"Tomlin, with his back to the approaching play, appeared to glance over his shoulder then place his foot briefly onto the field as he jumped out of the way, causing Jones to veer inside where he was tackled."

This implies that Jones was tackled because of Tomlin's position, but there is no basis to this because that is purely circumstantial and there is no direct evidence. Not to mention Cortez Allen was already in a position to make the tackle before Tomlin could have affected the outcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.144.154.69 (talk) 21:09, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Record consecutive winning seasons

[edit]

The record for consequtive winning seasons is held by Tom Landy of the Dallas Cowboys, twenty (20) consecutive winning seasons. 1afsgt (talk) 14:36, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@1afsgt, are you referring to the text "Most consecutive non-losing seasons to begin coaching career: 15" in the infobox? This record is specifically starting from the beginning of a coach's career and Landry had 5 consecutive losing seasons to begin his coaching career.
