Heritage
[edit]He is a Croatian-American, he's affirmed it himself.

The first link you provided does not work. The second one has nothing to do with him. More references needed. --Kale78 (talk) 18:24, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- The place of birth is today's Montenegro. At the time of birth, it was the area of Boka Kotorska, province of Dalmatia, part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
- All Slavic Catholics from Boka Kotorska declared themselves Croats, none of the Catholics declared themselves Montenegrins or Serbs.
- The inhabitants of Boka Kotorska were not considered Montenegrins, not even those from the Orthodox corps. For example after that territory became part of the republic within communist Yugoslavia, the same republic was initially called Montenegro and Boka Kotorska because the inhabitants of Boka Kotorka had a strong rejection of the name Montenegrin.
- So it cannot be claimed that the father is Montenegrin by origin. It can only be claimed that it originates from the present-day territory of Montenegro. The closest to the truth is that he is a Croat by origin. Ivo.rilovic (talk) 08:31, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
Recent photo forthcoming (I hope)
[edit]If anyone's still paying attention on this side - Mike Stepovich consented to a photo yesterday, for which I'm very honored and grateful. I hope to have it uploaded soon; I just haven't taken much time lately to organize and upload photos in general, to the point where I'm sitting on two full SD cards. Will update if necessary.RadioKAOS (talk) 01:28, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Mike Stepovich on the recent death ticker on the main page?
[edit]I know that Mike Stepovich doesn't have the star power of Shirley Temple or Sid Caesar, but how about it? News stories in the wake of his death have pointed out that his political career was brief, pretty much over after losing to Gruening then Egan. What may require further examination is that while territorial governor, he was a national political celebrity on a similar plane to what we all came to witness with Sarah Palin a half century later. Also, the distinction of being the last surviving pre-statehood governor in the United States is not likely to be surpassed anytime soon, if ever. First native-born governor?
[edit]Under "Governorship" in the article, it is stated that Mr. Stepovich was the first native-born governor of Alaska. Yet Waino Hendrickson served as acting governor briefly, just before Mr. Stepovich. And the Wikipedia entry for Mr. Hendrickson shows that he was born in Alaska. - I'll be able to fix that. Mycranthebigman (talk) 15:18, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
