New images

@CatcherStorm: Is the newest image that you added really an improvement on the old one for Mike? I feel the older one is better, closer up, and you can see a proper portrait of him. The Optimistic One (talk) 17:22, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

The Optimistic One, My take on this is, you shouldn't keep changing images for the sake of it. I'm not sure if a new image of Mike has to stay, but Saul's older image better be used. My reasoning behind changing the images is for consistency and to make sure it’s up to date.

Having each character portrayed by their most recent promotional cast photo brings a sense of uniformity. Mike’s portrait was from season 5 of Breaking Bad, which I found to be outdated considering he is the second most important character in Better Call Saul. Gus’ photo was from Season 3-4 of Breaking Bad, which aired almost a decade ago. Howard’s cast photo is much more appealing than his previous one, he is standing straight up and looking forward. Saul’s photo was from Season 5 of Breaking Bad. Kim’s photo was from a previous season.

Older photos can be used within the actual article. We can use their old photos and put them where they would fit, for example putting Mike’s season 5 portrait in the section covering his season 5 role in Breaking Bad. Or, we could add a gallery section, and put all of them there. CatcherStorm ^talk 18:05, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

While conformity is good, and using the photos that we can pull from AMC's cast/crew page (and what's there at archive.org, I just checked), we have the issue with the show's changing cast - eg loss of McKean, addition of Esposito and Dalton - that the photos aren't going to be consistent, period, and as noted, within the same "set", some of the photos are terrible for our purposes (eg Saul's for S5 with hand in his face). Unless we were talking some serious physical image change to the character that needed the up-to-date photo (eg if it were the case that Mark Margolis as Hector was a main cast member and we saw him go from all fine to the paralyzed-in-wheelchair figure over the series, we'd want to have the visual of the wheelchair as the cast photo. But obviously, none of this has happened to these characters, Jimmy/Saul in S1 is as recognizable as Jimmy/Saul in S5 so we are free to pick whichever of the photos look best, but as said, with some type of consistency. To me, that would preferably be as much face-on, with the dark background contrast that the earlier cast photos gave (which I think was still spread across a few different seasons); it shows their personality a lot better than the full body shots of S5. This would only leave Lalo with the brighter S5 image to work from at this stage. Of course, when S6 rolls around we may have a new selection to work from with only McKean's being out of place then, but we'll have to see.

And no we cannot use the older photos that way. That's against NFC. Unless you can rationalize the use of a second or additional image (as I was able to for Kim's smiling on her page) we get one non-free image per character page. --Masem (t) 18:20, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

CatcherStorm Personally, I prefer your additions for Howard, Kim and Nacho. But Gus', Mikes, and especially Sauls are not improvements. The files being newer is not a valid reason to replace older ones. We also can't have more than one non-free image without good reason. What I don't get is that you uploaded a better file for Saul that you didn't use. The Optimistic One (talk) 18:40, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

The Optimistic One I can see where you're coming from regarding Saul, but Mike and Gus are perfectly fine. Their full body shots portray them much more effectively than their head portraits. And like Masem said, when season 6 comes there will be better photos. I did upload a better photo of Saul, but I replaced it with his season 5 photo for conformity. I have OCD, so seeing one photo out of place in regards to everyone else's makes me unhappy. CatcherStorm ^talk 18:58, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

CatcherStorm: Much prefer the other Saul file you uploaded. I see that you uploaded more files for BB/BCS characters. Thank you very much! I had a look at them and they all seem fine. However, you uploaded a file of Lalo that was the exact same as older one which I found a bit odd. Anyway, I still feel that Mike and Gus' don't really look better. First and Last Appearance

As we near the end of BCS, how should the first and last appearance section appear? Right now it is broken up by series, but should we consider changing it to chronology or literal appearance? Having it both ways seems confusing. I feel like it should read "First Appearance: ABQ (Breaking Bad episode)" and "Last Appearance: Breaking Bad (Better Call Saul episode)." Obviously last appearance depends on the remaining two episode of BCS, but ultimately we should prioritize literal appearances over Chronological appearances, correct? If we're going Chronological, firs appearance would be "Uno" and last would be "Say My Name." Let me know what you all think :) ThanosDidSomeThingsWrong19 (talk) 22:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

I like it broken up by series. By chronological appearance, I take you to mean appearance in the BB-world's timeline, and literal appearance means appearance in the story in the order revealed (within all BB franchises). I favour literal appearance (broken up among the different series), because I think that's what people want to know about.

In Cheers, Norm's wife Vera is a long-standing character practically from the beginning, but she only makes an "appearance" (well, you know what I mean) very late in the run of the series, at Diane's dinner party. Some fictional characters just join the story in an episode, but many others have a history and are referred to before they actually get screen time. And at the other end, characters move away or die, and are alluded to long after their last screen appearance. I think it's when a character first gets screen time, or joins or leaves "the cast" that people want to know about. @User:Leoo007 the nicknames section is for in-universe nicknames, not general nicknames. Someone could say that's his nickname from fans in the body and/or talk about the meme. But I don't think the meme is notable enough to warrant either. It's a big meme though, so others might disagree. I mean Howie read it out on Cameo for charity,that's something /srs
